CHAUNCY, Francis A. (Gene Olson)
[Original Artwork]: by Francis A. Chauncy for "The Red, Red Roadster" by Gene Olson
Philadelphia: Macrae Smith Company, 1962. Very Good. Francis Chauncy's jacket cover art and title page illustration for this children's book: 1 original color painting on textured paper measuring 15" x 17" mounted on artists board; and 1 pen and ink drawing on textured paper measuring 17" x 14.5". Both are Signed by the artist, a few small measurements in the margins, light glue staining on the back of the sheets, very good. Chauncy's painting captures the madness and humor of this story of a small town High School teacher, middle-aged Miss Barberry, who buys a red Alfa Romeo to help get her through a mid-life crisis. Accompanied by a near fine ex-library copy of the book in fine dustwrapper for comparison, and a near fine copy of the first paperback edition (Scholastic Book Services) with Wayne Blickenstaff's front cover illustration that presents a much more proper depiction of Miss Barberry's plight.
