Chinua Achebe
Things Fall Apart
New York: McDowell Obolensky, 1959. Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe First American edition, first printing with a signed and inscribed card from Achebe New York: McDowell Obolensky, 1959. Green and brown cloth binding as required. First state jacket priced at $3.75 with no reviews to back panel. The inscribed card is laid in, showing a light paperclip indent and residue. Book itself is very good or better, with a tight and sturdy binding. Internally clean. Light mottling to the lower spine, a trace of sunning, faint spot of discoloration to topstain, tanning to rear endpaper. Jacket shows a bit of fading to publisher's logo on spine, else bright and vivid. The top appears to be cut a touch unevenly, presumably from the printing process, but this is almost imperceptible. A small spot of loss and tape residue between back panel and flap. Overall, a scarce and very presentable copy.
