The Garden of the Prophet (Rare First Edition in the Original dust jacket)
Alfred A. Knopf, New York, 1933. Very handsomely bound in finely woven black cloth stamped brightly in gold on the front boards with the hand of the Prophet holding dancing figures in his hand, all enclosed in a golden ball; with bright gilt lettering on the spine. The splendidly clean binding feels new. There is a faint 3" vertical raised crease in the cloth at the bottom, right-hand corner of the front panel. Very clean endpapers and tight hinges. No writing or marks of any kind. A near-fine copy internally; very clean and crisp, virtually unread. Laid in is the Alfred A. Knopf, Publisher Business Reply Card "To Borzoi Readers." Illustrated with seven drawings on glossy stock by Gibran and two facsimile manuscript pages, all present and intact. In the original dust jacket printed in black and blue on ivory paper. The original price of "$2.50 net" is at the top of the inside front flap. Darkening to the jacket spine; light toning and soiling along the front fold of the jacket. With a few light soil marks on the back of the jacket which features a black and white photo of a mysterious and reflective Gibran. A few faint, tiny shadows of damp stain at the bottom of the jacket on the verso.Tiny chips at the top of the spine ends; and light wear and a tiny nick at the bottom of the spine ends.With an iconic photo and biographical sketch of a Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931) on the rear panel.
