London, John Tallis & Company, no date, circa 1852. 2 Volumes. Hardbacks, approx 11 x 8 inches. Red cloth with decorative blind-embossed boards, gilt lettering and decorations to spines, gilt vignettes to boards. Yellow endpapers. In very good conditions. Subtle professional repairs to spines, cloth carefully backed at ends and reinforced at inner hinges. Corners of boards bumped and slightly nicked. Some overall darkening and handling to covers. Neat inscription to endpaper ?William Hanson Bary(?) from his affectionate Father, March 1867.? Moderate foxing to frontis plates, maps are clean, crisp and bright. A couple of minor spots to inside pages (around portrait in v.1.,and p315-17 in v.2.) Else pages all very clean and tight. 596pp. Illustrated with many B&W woodcuts within text, 4 Maps: 2 double-page steel-engraved hand-coloured maps, and 2 on one single plate. Decorative steel-engraved title page and 2 steel-engraved portraits in vol.1. Engraved frontis in vol.2, ?The Death of Capt. Cook.?
