1591. Rome: Hendrik van Schoel, 1602. Three sheets conjoined, total 420 x 880mm, good margins. Repaired tear, minor repairs to binding folds, wide margins An extremely rare view of the Capitol ( Campidoglio ) of classical Rome, with little regard for perspective, first published in Salamanca's 'Speculum Romanæ Magnificentiæ' c.1550. Antonio Martinez of Salamanca (1478-1562) published prints in Rome from c.1517 until his death, latterly in partnership with Antonio Lafreri. The plates of the Speculum passed to Lafreri after Salamanca died, then onto Lafreri's nephew Claudio Duchetti. Hendrik van Schoel (c.1565-1622) of Antwerp, bought a number of Duchetti's plates for re-issue in a business in Rome.
