London, 1775. Copper engraved map with original hand colour.73 x 55 cms. Fine condition of this important map providing accurate details of the keys,central north and south cuban coasts. The map illustrates the treasure fleets from Cartagena de Indias and Veracruz that met at Havana. The map refers to the shipwreck of the treasure fleet at Santiago el Grande in 1765. the improvements of this map are based on spanish cartographic and hydrographic surveys captured during the english occupation of Havana in 1762. The mapping of Florida keys was made during the seven years war and the necessity to update all the cartographic information. This was made by William Gerad de Brahm between 1765-71. Thomas Jefferys was the most important map publishers in the XVIII century England. William sayer published posthumously the maps after Jefferys death. Fine map in very good condition.
