Mennie, Donald
China North and South, Photogravures by Donald Mennie
A.S. Watson & Co (The Shanghai Pharmacy Ltd.), 1928. Bound between two covers with square spine, photographs have three holes that are tied in with gold string. The covers are darkened with age, the cover photo pastedown is scuffed, spine has chipping, corners are worn. Title page has light soiling lower left corner, thirty photographs mounted on duo-toned textured paper. The photographer Donald Mennie used the wet plate process, already a largely obsolete method in his time, and for his published prints, he mainly employed photogravure, a process emphasizing the image softness and subtle tonal variation that suited his interest in pictorialism. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
Bookseller: Ivy Ridge Books [Philadelphia, PA, U.S.A.]
