74 Hand-Colored 18th Century Maps and Related Materials...
[Paris] 1763-1774. Folio, 72 double page hand-colored plates, two single page hand-colored plates, engraved title page from Cosmographie Universelle...(1768). Green reverse calf, untrimmed, manuscript index on flyleaf and paste-down, decorative endpapers. Binding is rubbed and stained, sewn gatherings have come loose from the upper hinge, edges slightly browned. The plates are all bright and in very good condition, excepting “Chromographie du Cercle de Basse...” which has a large damp stain (does not obscure the content). A collection of 18th century maps, in French, collected and bound together with an engraved title page from the primary author’s best known work Cosmographie Universalle, Physique, et Anstronomique... Maps include all the continents, the “old” and “new” worlds, and many of France. This collection also includes rare celestial hemispheres by Maurille-Antoine Moithey, globes, early nautical map of ocean currents, and two folding “Notions Élémentaires De Cosmographie.” Full list of maps upon request.
