Gabriel Giolito de Ferrari. In a contemporary Venetian morocco binding Three parts in one volume, 4to (225x153 mm). 264; 31; [30] leaves. Collations: A-Z8 AA-KK8; AAA-DDD8; *-***8 ****6. Lacking DDD8, a blank. First title page framed by an elaborate woodcut border. With 52 woodcut vignettes and 54 large historiated initials. Colophon at leaf DDD7r. Part 2 (Cinque canti di un nuovo libro) and part 3 (Espositione di tutti i vocaboli... raccolte da M. Lodovico Dolce) open with separate title page. Issue with the vignette on l. P2r printed in the upright position and with the portrait of Ariosto at l. *1v. Giolito's devices on the three title pages and at l. DDD7r, all different (U536, Z538, Z537, and Z539). Text printed in two columns. Italic types. Lavish contemporary Venetian binding, brown morocco, spine gilt with three raised bands, panels within blind-ruled and gilt fillets and with small floral corner-pieces in gilt, in the center a large fleuron accompanied by four phytomorphic ornaments and surrounded by a border with motifs à la grecque (all in gilt), edges gilt and gauffered (later endleaves, spine and joints worn and with minor scratches). Preserved in a cloth case. Title page soiled and with a small round hole affecting the woodcut border, some foxing, marginal damp stains. NICE ILLUSTRATED EDITION of the Furioso printed by Giolito and edited by Lodovico Dolce, who added, as an appendix, the Espositione di tutti i vocaboli.
