1792 1st Virginia ed Ahiman Rezon Masonic PROVENANCE of George Washington Lodge
1792 1st Virginia ed Ahiman Rezon Masonic PROVENANCE of George Washington Lodge The ‘Ahiman Rezon’ was written in the mid-1700s as a book of constitutions for the Grand Lodge, including orders of rites, ceremonies, behaviors, and histories of freemasonry. It concerns God and religion stating that ‘a mason is obliged to believe firmly in true worship of the eternal God.’ This 1791 first Virginia John Dixon edition of ‘Ahiman Rezon’ was published in Richmond and dedicated to George Washington during his first term as President. This particular example is utterly unique and notable because of its provenance. Impressed on the front cover of this work reads ‘Lodge No. I Norfolk’ – the FIRST masonic lodge to which George Washington himself was asked to be Grand Master! Perhaps he handled this very book!
