, . . Tiele, Bibl. 310; cf. Atabey 338; Blackmer 471; Gay, Bibl. de l'Afrique et l'Arabe 1998; Meulenaere, pp. 62-64. First and only Dutch edition of a popular travelogue written in a lively style by Baron Dominique-Vivant Denon (1747-1825), describing his explorations in the Lower and Upper part of Egypt during the campaign of Napoleon Bonaparte (1799-1801). Protected by the French troops, Denon was able to explore the country extensively. As a result, his travel account was the first important scientific fruit of Napoleon's Egyptian campaign. The detailed illustrations primarily depict archaeological sites, ruins and monuments with bass-reliefs and hieroglyphs from the Thebaid region, and prompted the Egyptian Revival in architecture and art.Bindings slightly chafed, one hinge a bit worn, and some occasional minor spots. In very good condition.
