Flora española selecta, ó colección de las plantas más peregrinas y espontáneas de los dominios de España, por D. Manuel Muñoz de Ugena, pintor de cámara de S. M. y Por Casimiro Gomez Ortega, primer catedrático de Botánica. Ramillete primero [y segundo].
Extremely rare, this is the second copy we were able to trace, of the Flora produced by Munoz de Ugena and Ortega; the book is divided in two parts, the first dealing with Spanish plants, and the second devoted to the American flora. Although not the first book of its kind produced in Spain, this is by far the rarest, and amongst the most beautifully produced ones, one would think created to match those being produced in England or France. The most interesting part for Americana, is that one of the volumes is solely dedicated to American plants; these are the plants described: Pancracio marítimo, Azucena de Lima, Lirio Tuberoso, Narciso Tazilla, Sedo Arbóreo, Datura arbórea o floripondio. Paxaritos amarillos o canarios tropeolo peregrino, Zinia de pocas flores o maravilla encarnada, Bupleuro vertical o revientabuey de monte, Solano de Buenos Ayres, Solano de fruto grande o naranjito de Quito, Teucrio Maro o Yerba fuerte. As stated above, the rarity is exceptional, there has been no copy in the market according the RareBookHub, neither is there one in any institution according to worldcat, not in the Hispanic Society and not in the Huntington Library; the only other copy is housed at the Real Academia Nacional de Medicina (Spain), according to CCPBE. Contemporary inscription on front pastedown "Los dos cuadernos 3 reales". Ortega (1741 - 1818) was a Spanish physician and botanist, the first professor of the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid, built under the patronage of Charles III, with the aim of studying the new species of plants being identified by … [Klicken Sie unten für eine ausführliche Beschreibung]
