Housed in a black quarter morocco solander box by the Chelsea Bindery. Portrait frontispiece. Spine cocked and faded to brown, with half spine panel partially torn but present, cloth rather stained and marked, edges worn, front hinge cracked at half-title but book block sound; a poor copy. Sylvia Plath's own copy, heavily marked-up and annotated by her in black ink and with her bookplate to the front free endpaper, of the first US edition, first printing, of Thomas's Collected Poems (first published in the UK the preceding year). Plath has annotated Thomas's poems in five places: on p. 124 against "The Hunchback in the Park" she has made three notes ("fantasy games of boys-"; "hunchback's vision-"; and "-That hunchback makes out of his vision-"); on p. 110 against "Twenty-Four Years", she has noted "Shroud of flesh - journey to the grave -"; and on p. 180, beneath the final stanza of "Fern Hill", noted "freedom within necessity". Plath has made a small line against 13 poems on the contents page; the main text contains over 90 sentences or passages underlined by her, with occasional brackets in the margins; two poems are marked with Plath's distinctive star symbol ("Was There a Time", p. 59 and "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night" p. 128); p. 60 has one pencilled underlining and p. 62 has several partially erased pencil underlinings.
