No. 224. 2nd Session, 6th Parliament, 22 Victoria, 1859 "(Private Bill.)" Bill. An Act to incorporate the Ottawa Valley Railway Company. "Received and read, first time, Friday, 1st April, 1859. Second reading, Saturday, 2nd April, 1859." Mr. Ferres Most interesting history of the Ottawa Valley Railway Company starting with this Bill in 1859 to be discovered... Ottawa Valley Railway Company, which was chartered in 1892 under Dominion Act 55-56 Victoria, chapter 54, to build a railway from St. Andrews to Carillon, Quebec, and from Grenville to Calumet, Quebec, connecting at the latter place with the Canadian Pacific Railway. It was completed and the line was opened for service on 1 November 1892. Ottawa Valley Railway Company was sold to Atlantic and Lake Superior Railway Company, in 1894, Chapter 63. Robert Bell was a printer, businessman, office holder, politician, justice of the peace, and militia officer. He ran successfully as a reform candidate in the general election of 1847-48 which he represented in the Legislative Assembly until 1851. Throughout his life Bell maintained his residence in Carleton Place. In the elections of 1854, 1857-58, 1861, and 1863 he won the Lanark North seat.
