ADAMS, HENRY
Democracy
Henry Holt & Co, New York, 1880. Original publisher's off-white cloth with the spine a shade darker. Partial and largely faded name stamp to front cover. Some minor spine loss at the ends. Two book-plates present - those of Edward Atkinson and Christopher Clark Geest. Edward Atkinson was an entrepeneur in the cotton mill industry, and then he became deeply involved in the Insurance trade, based in Boston. He was strongly against slavery and towards the close of the century became a vocal anit-imperialist. This is a first edition with the variant "C" printing, according to BAL 11. Published anonymously. Eight pages of ads to the rear. Endpapers also display ads for Holt titles. Very Good. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
Bookseller: First Place Books - ABAA, ILAB [Walkersville, MD, U.S.A.]
