Agrippa, Henry Cornelius (Edited and Annotated by Donald Tyson, Translated into English by James Freake)
The Three Books of of Occult Philosophy. The Foundation Book of Western Occultism
Woodbury: Llewellyn Publications, 1998. Reprint. Full Leather. Fine. Hardcover. Quarto. Originally issued in paperback, this is one of a very small amount of copies that noted bookseller Donald Weiser had specially rebound in full black leather over thick boards with ornate gilt tooling to spine with 5 raised bands and gilt title on a maroon label. Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. 938 pages plus publishers advertisements, illustrated in black and white: diagrams, figures, seals, sigils, and charts. A heavy volume, weighing in at around 5 pounds. A very uncommon issue of this classic title. There is some camera glare in the photos. This volume is in fine condition. One of the most influential and complete repositories of ceremonial magic. It includes copious extracts on magic from obscure or lost works by Pythagoras, Pliny the Elder, Cicero, Ptolemy, Plato, Aristotle, and many other authorities. Donald Tyson's detailed annotations clarify difficult references and provide origins of quotations, expanding upon them as necessary in order to make Agrippa's work more accessible.
