Wherein is contained, besides the pleasantnesse and sweetenesse of the stile, many philosophicall sentences, and profitable instructions necessary for the younger sort: shewing the deceits and subtilties housed in the bosomes of false seruants, and cunny-catching Bawds. FIRST ENGLISH EDITION 1631 of La CELESTINA (Spanish original first published anonymously in 1499), 4to, approximately 270 x 190 mm, 10½ x 7¼ inches, printer's device on title page, some decorative headpieces and historiated initials, pages: Lacks A1 blank [14 of 16], 1- 88, 91-202, [2], the jump from 88-91 has the correct catchword nothing missing, a couple of errors of pagination, collation: A8, B-Bb4, Cc6 (-A1 - blank), Cc3 misnumbered Cc2, probably a cancel, text is continuous and complete, Cc6 is a blank. Bound in full calf, rebacked, triple blind ruled border to covers and on spine, original gilt lettered label, no pastedowns, last endpaper present. Spine rubbed and faded, gilt dull, corners bumped, a few small scuffs, scrapes and signs of wear to covers, endpapers replaced with incunable leaves in black letter with red headings and initials, 2 lines of subtitle cut out on center of title page and now repaired on blank side and replaced with facsimile text, 3 small ink blots and a couple of faint ink words on title page (see image), small repair to lower margin of title page and following A3, 3 short closed edge tears to leaf Cc neatly repaired, another in the text with no loss of legibility, Cc is possibly reinserted as upper … [Click Below for Full Description]
