Baum, L. Frank
The Magic of Oz
The Reilly & Lee Co., 1919. Neill, John R. Hard Cover. First Edition. Very Good. First edition, first state, with titles up to The Tin Woodman of Oz listed to verso of ownership page and 12 color plates by John R. Neill, as well as several black and white in-text illustrations. Publisher's green cloth, stamped in black to spine, with mounted pictorial panel, illustrated endpapers, lacking dust jacket as usual. A very good copy with some light wear to extremities and rubbing to boards, as well as with some toning to text block, p. 199 with the word "Chapter" in page heading erased and re-written by hand, a few light pencil marks to prelims. Overall a bright and attractive copy. The Magic of Oz is the thirteenth of Baum's Oz books, and was published posthumously one month after the author's death in 1919. As preparations are underway for Princess Ozma's birthday, the former Nome King Ruggedo enlists the help of a young boy with the power of transformation in his mission to conquer the Land of Oz. One of the last two books in the series, Magic of Oz benefitted from the upsurge in sales of the previous book, and sold over 26,000 copies. [Attributes: First Edition]
