Articuls Brief wider den Unordnungen unter dem Kriegsvolck. Statuirt von den General Staaten Vereinigter Niederlanden.
1710. 8vo (20,4 x 16,5 cm). (5), 150 pp + 8 blank leaves and 2 leaves with diagrams in ink. Contemporary flexible vellum, covers with holes for ties. Early-18th century German manuscript in very legible German Kurrent writing. It contains articles concerning the army of the United Dutch Republics from between 1688 and 1712, and especially regarding the Swiss regiments that were enlisted by the Dutch Republic. The manuscript describes in detail the arrangements between the States General and the Swiss cantons regarding daily procedures as exercising, but also on military law and the rules according to which the soldiers had to behave. Section titles have been written in (calligraphed) hard letter. Elaborate calligraphed title-page, but unfortunately incomplete. Vellum wrinkled and bit soiled with 1 twine. A very interesting document on the 17th & 18th century military history of the Dutch Republic and especially its attitude towards the enlisted Swiss regiments.
