Total volumes 17. With three folding maps. A detailed history of the Catholic Church's Councilsdivided underthe reigns of the Popes. Philippe Labbe was a French Jesuit writer on historical, geographical and philological questions. Labbe wrote more than 80 literary, philosophical, and theological works, though he was accused on plagiarism in 1647. Gabriel Cossart was also a French Jesuit, known as a historian. He is noted for his collaborations with Philippe Labbe and was also a librarian for the College de Clermont. Condition: Uniformly bound in half calf bindings. Externally, worn with rubbing to all boards. Joints starting withfront board detached to volumesI, VI and Introduction. Joints cracked to volumes 4, 5 and 15. Rear board detached to volume 5. Rear joint cracked to volumes 10 and 12. Hinges reinforced to allvolumes. Monastic library bookplates to pastedowns of all volumes withlibrary pockets. Library markings to spine. Spine lifting toIntroduction volume. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places. Binding to Introduction volume failed with textblock in parts although text is complete. Pages bright with some spotting and age toning throughout as expected. Ex librisstamps in all volumes generally to first and last. Otherwise clean. Overall: GOOD ONLY withIntroduction volume FAIR.
