Petrarch. Petrarca, Francesco, 1304-1374; Alunno, Francesco
Le osservationi di M. Francesco Alunno da Ferrara sopra il Petrarca (1539)
Venetia (Venice): Francesco Marcolini, 1539. First printing. Hardcover. Good. Published 1539. 8vo, later marbled boards, 16cm, elaborate woodcut title page with portrait of Alunno, A-XX in 4s with 2 pp errata afterwards. Appears to be complete. The second part of a book often found bound two parts in one, the first part called 'Il Petrarca, con le Osservationi di Messer Francesco Alunno.' The first part contains work by Petrarch, this second part is Alunno's concordance of words found in Petrarch's works. Alunno (1485-1556) from Ferrara was a literary critic and grammarian; this appears to be his first published work, which he followed up some years afterwards with a study of the Italian vernacular of Boccaccio and the Decameron. Binding is worn and there are library marks on the spine and endpapers, could use a rebind, text very good and bright.
