Pitigiani, Francesco, d'Arezzo
Practica Criminalis Canonica, Seu Brevis Methodus criminaliter
1609. [Pitigiani, Francesco, d'Arezzo (1553-1616)]. Practica Criminalis Canonica: Seu Brevis Methodus Criminaliter Procedendi Inter Regulares: Cum Formula Procedendi. Perugia: Apud Augustos, 1609. 456 pp. Octavo (6" x 4"). Contemporary paneled pigskin with elaborate blind tooling, large gilt-stamped (but oxidized) arms to center of front board, raised bands and later hand-lettered shelf number and paper title label to spine, bronze clasps. Light soiling and a few minor stains, negligible rubbing to extremities, minor worming to pastedowns and preliminaries. Moderate toning, faint dampstaining to lower quarter of text block, internally clean. * First edition. This is a comprehensive treatise on criminal law by a canon lawyer and Franciscan monk. We do not know much about him, but his book seems to have been well-received. It went through two more editions in 1617 and 1621. All are rare. OCLC locates 3 copies of the first edition, none in North America. Not in the British Museum Catalogue. This edition not in Ferreira-Ibarra.
