Paris, Chez l'Auteur sur le Quai de l'Horloge a l Aigle d Or avec Privilege, 1706. antique handcoloured copper engraved map of Tartary east to west from Moscow to Peking, including Northern China, Peking, Mongolia, Russia and Moscow, with decorative engraved cartouche dated 1706, single sheet with centre fold as usual, engraved surface measuring 500mm by 635mm, with margins and plate mark 520mm by 690mm. later handcolouring but beautifully coloured, with hand cut six line and wash border sunk mount, hinged with back board, ready for framing, Guillaume Delisle, French Cartographer, 1675 - 1726, known for his popular and exact maps of Europe. In 1718 he received the title of Premier Geographe du Roi. His new office teaching geography to the Dauphin, King Louis X1V's son. Paper sized, manuscript title on blank verso in large contemporary hand in sepia 'Tartarie par Del'Isle', blank margins with a few small tears covered by mount, one inoffensive closed tear at top of map otherwise this lovely map is in very good clean condition.
