Augsburg, Germany: Jeremias Wollfs, circa 1720. 126 engraved plates of interior and exterior decorative furniture, functional items, architectural design, such as funerary sculpture, pipe organs, furnaces, fountains, stairs, gardens, esoteric symbols, and more, with descriptive text below images. Title in German and Italian. Folio, plates bound into later cloth-backed contemporary boards. Scattered foxing and damp-staining, variously affecting images. Otherwise strong and clean impressions. Johann Jacob Schübler, born in Nuremberg in 1689, was a prodigious architect, draughtsman, mathematician, painter, and sculptor. His design was extremely influential at the time and was widely adopted all over Europe.This book and all its plates are highly sought collectors' items. It's a museum collection, collected by Met Museum, Victoria and Art Museum, National Museum of Art, Cooper Hewitt Design Museum, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Deutsches Museum, The British Museum, Museum of Fine Art Boston, RIJKS Museum of NL, and also by rare book division of many University Libraries.
