One volume in small 4to; (VIII) pp., 86, (1) leaves; vignette to title page, decorative woodcut initials and head-pieces, 18th century marbled calf, extremities slightly rubbed, upper spine end chipped, flat spine richly gilt with contrasting gilt lettering-piece, marbled endpapers, red edges, occasional light browning, eight leaves with closed worm trace in lower margin, else clean and crisp, a good to very good copy. First edition of this treatise on political theory, posthumously published in 1571. This copy does not contain Sebastiano Erizo’s small discourse on civil government. B. Cavalcanti was a Florentine diplomat and government official and a political theorist. For him the ideal form of government is democracy based on a healthy economy.
