Bacon, Matthew
A New Abridgment of the Law. Five Volumes [complete]. Folio. Cowley 230
First edition of all five volumes of Bacon's pioneering abridgment, creating a "scientifically constructed treatise[] on all branches of the law" in Holdsworth's words, still thought to be based in part on both books and manuscripts of Baron Gilbert. Contemporary calf, quite worn, joints cracked but holding, one label lacking, occasional minor worming, yet a good clean set. Printed by E. and R. Nutt and R. Gosling [etc.] [imprints vary], London, 1736-66.
