Bound by Macdonalds, noted on stamp from Charles Scribners Sons. Bookplate of Edward M. House affixed to front pastedown. Light wear at edges, mild age toning to spine. From a "special edition" of 50 signed copies for personal presentation. Limitation reads: "This copy is one of a special edition of fifty copies made for personal presentation." Inscription by H.H. Kohlsaat reads: "To my dear friend Col. Edward M. House / with the affectionate regard of H.H. Kohlsaat. New York. March 13, 1923." A unique association copy between two confidants of the presidents of the early 20th Century. H.H. Kohlsaat was an American business man, newspaper publisher and confidant of President McKinley, Roosevelt, Taft, Wilson and Harding. Colonel Edward M. House was a chief advisor to President Woodrow Wilson, serving as his expert on European politics and later the Paris Peace Conference. He was responsible for the constitution of the League of Nations, the Fourteen Points of the armistice with Germany and helped to draft the Treaty of Versailles. He would later write his memoirs, The Intimate Papers of Colonel House.
