GODDEN, Rumer.
Black Narcissus.
London: Peter Davies, 1939. London: Peter Davies,, 1939. Octavo. Original pale brown cloth, titles to spine in yellow. With the dust jacket. Housed in a custom green morocco-backed folding case. Titles very slightly rubbed at spine, some very minor spotting at fore-edge, a superb copy with the dust jacket in extraordinary condition, only a little worm-eaten at the fore-edge folds but otherwise near-fine and entirely free from restoration. First edition, first impression, in an exceptional example of the rare dust jacket (with first issue 7/6 price present), certainly the best that we have seen. Godden's book was the basis for the classic 1947 Powell & Pressburger film, featuring Deborah Kerr, Kathleen Byron, Sabu, David Farrar, Flora Robson, Esmond Knight, and Jean Simmons.
Bookseller: Peter Harrington. ABA/ ILAB. [London, United Kingdom]
