Put on something like Spray, from their latest full-length Easy Action, into your wake-up routine, daylight peeking out over the trees and buildings, an abundance of noise and effects co-existing around stern acoustic folk guitar melodies, traditions smashing against one another like metaphysical Japanese monsters to make room for more skies and visible horizons in your life. Featuring Alexis Georgeopolous (Arp), Jefre Cantu-Ledesma (who runs the Root Strata label and blog) and Scott Hewicker (Troll), the Alps make music that is made to move the mountains in your mind, and help you to take some time for yourself, out of focus from the rest of the world, and think about what you can do today to make the world better."; the music on the LP: Side A) Today & Tomorrow, Spray, Pink Orange, For Isabel. Side B) Loves of a Blonde, Easy Action, Violet Hour, Reflections For Peter Green, Instant Light, Until Tomorrow; size of sleeve when not folded: 12-1/2 x 12-1/4in, height when pyramid is opened: 10-3/4in. high & 12 in. at the 3 sides of the base; the fold out pyramid and LP are in VERY GOOD COND.       New York City, NY: Metropolitan Museum Of Art, 2011 - 1st Printing. 240 pages. Published in 2011. Retrospective exhibition monograph. One of the greatest books on fashion ever published in our time. The true First Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a very small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only which sold out shortly after publication. The book remains available in multiple subsequent printings (all succeeding printings are meticulously indicated as such), the bestselling fashion monograph published by The Met. The First Edition is now rare. A brilliant production by Andrew Bolton: Oversize-volume format. Brown cloth boards with metallic-silver titles embossed on the spine and lenticular holograph that alternately dissolves between a skull and a close-up portrait of the artist, as issued. The skull art was conceived by McQueen. Fashion by Alexander McQueen. Text by Andrew Bolton and other contributors. Printed on thick coated stock paper in Italy to the very highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Published on the occasion of the landmark exhibition of the same name held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art New York from April 3 through August 7, 2011. Presents the single best book on the art of Lee Alexander McQueen. "The most influential, imaginative, and provocative designer of his generation, Alexander McQueen both challenged and expanded fashion conventions to express ideas about race, class, sexuality, religion, and the environment. Examines the full breadth of the designer's career from the start of his fledgling label to the triumphs of his own world-renowned London House. It features his most iconic designs, revealing how McQueen adapted and combined the fundamentals of Savile Row tailoring, the techniques of haute couture, and technological innovation to achieve his distinctive aesthetic" (Publisher's blurb). Alexander McQueen was one of a handful of truly great fashion designer/artists of his generation. Actually, only two others come to mind: Nicolas Ghesquiere (Balenciaga) and Alber Elbaz (Lanvin). The rest are "play-it-safe" derivative imitators. Bold and fearless in his art, McQueen was weak and vulnerable in life. He committed suicide by hanging himself with his favorite brown belt on February 11, 2010, nine days after his mother died of cancer and the day before her funeral. With characteristic British understatement, he left a brief suicide note: "Look after my dogs. Sorry, I love you, Lee". His long-time assistant, Sarah Burton, paid homage to McQueen when she created the wedding gown of Kate Middleton, a masterwork of exquisite lacework and elegance of line. It became the Royal Wedding's global sensation and immediately catapulted Burton to front-rank status. She will carry on Alexander McQueen's legacy. An absolute "must-have" title for Alexander McQueen, fashion, and photography collectors. This title is now highly collectible. As far as we know, this is the only copy of the First Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. All other copies available online are Later Printings or have serious flaws. A rare copy thus. 293 color plates. One of the greatest fashion designers of our time. A fine collectible copy.         Fifty Shades of Grey

The Writer's Coffee Shop 2011 - The Writer's Coffee Shop, 2011. First Edition, the Lulu / LightningSource print run, with the spine roman numeral - the rough analog of "second printing" of the first edition. Octavo (9" x 6"), photo-pictorial wraps designed by Jennifer McGuire and executed by Dreamstime, 372 pp. Better than Very Good plus; about Near Fine; corners just touched, small folding to the corners of several consecutive pages, and the glossy cover, held at an angle, shows several faint impressed lines, presumably when original owner had written made lines on a piece of paper using the book as a hard surface. Sharp and clean, showing no smudging, soiling or other signs of prior use except as noted. See scans. The memorable Fifty Shades of Grey started as an e-book issued by The Writer's Coffee Shop in2011. TWCS then contracted with Lulu Self-Publishing (for printing) and Lightning Source (for distribution) to fulfill a growing international wait list of hardcopy requests, then in January of 2012 with Hill Print Solutions to handle USA print-on-demand requests; from January to May of 2012 (Random House acquired the rights in May), Hill printed 3,500 copies of Fifty Shades of Grey, 2,000 copies of Fifty Shades Darker, and 3,000 copies of Fifty Shades Freed. Some Hill copies of the first two titles are nevertheless dated 2011; the rest are dated 2012. The very first Lulu copies (of this title only - not the latter two in the trilogy) lacked a roman numeral at the top of the spine, apparently because it had not yet been decided that there would be a trilogy. All later copies of Fifty Shades of Grey, by Lulu OR Hill, as well as all copies of the second and third titles, have the respective roman numerals I, II, and II at the top of the spine. The number of copies of Fifty Shades of Grey lacking the roman numeral is unavailable information, but it is a very small number. All Lulu copies have the number 90000 above the bar code area on the back cover; all Hill copies have the number 51999 in that location. Hence, with regard to the Fifty Shades of Grey title, the Lulu copies with no roman numeral on the spine are the first printing of the first edition; the Lulu copies WITH a roman numeral can be thought of as the second printing; the 2011 Hill copies dated 2011 can be termed the third printing, and the Hill copies dated 2012, the fourth printing. Because printing was "print-on-demand", and done in response to wait lists of unknown size and growth rate, there may have been some Hill copies physically printed before some later Lulu copies; we'll almost certainly never know. This is the paperback, e-book-to-print-on-demand world, and it's just different. It's certainly very rare for such a title to become the phenomenon this one has for collectors and the general public. Nevertheless, the above chronology is reasonable and based on statements from the principals - and it gives collectors four different forms of the first edition to collect. The Random House edition, then, is the second edition (Hill Print Solutions was just a subcontracted American printer for TWCS' first edition). This copy is a Lulu / Lightning Source copy, dated 2011, hence a "second printing" of the first edition of this title. Yes, some early Lulu copies of all three titles were accompanied by black TWCS bookmarks bearing the respective titles, the number of these being apparently unknown. Also, some copies do refer to having been printed in Lexington, KY - number also unknown. There WILL be a quiz on this; you're responsible for all of the above material. L40 [Attributes: Soft Cover]
