Dolce vivere.

2006-2007 100% Africa, Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao. 2005 15 ans de transition, Memlin Hotel, Kinshasa. 2005 Peintre populaire congolaise, Museum of Haitien Art, Port au Prince. 2004-2007 Africa Remix, Dusseldorf, London, Paris, Tokyo, Johannesburg.

Fragments of Light 4. Lithographs by Fran Siegel. Translated by Zahra Partovi.

Vincent FitzGerald & Company, New York 2009 - Artist's book, signed, limited edition, one of 35 copies, all on hand-made linen paper by Dieu Donne Papermill and Mylar, each numbered and signed and dated by the artist, Fran Siegel, and signed in Persian by the translator, Zahra Partovi. Page size: 6-1/2 x 9-1/2 inches; 26 leaves. Bound: as desk calendar on stainless steel base, made by Milgo Bufkin, four screws fastening the two "rings" that hold the pages of the book, housed in custom-made grey cloth over boards clamshell box, box by BookLab II. The titlepage and colophon are printed by Jerry Kelly in black and silver with Kelly's own calligraphy. Ms. Siegal's lithographs were printed in silver on the white transparent linen by Kelly Driscoll. Each page of linen is followed by a silver Mylar page. Each etching was not re-inked when repeated on the silver Mylar page resulting in a shadow image. The text is laser cut. It appears first in Ms. Partovi's elegant Persian calligraphy at the top and bottom of each page with the circular litho surrounding circular disc cut into each page, "reading" as silver against the succeeding silver Mylar page. It is followed by her flowing English translation on the silver Mylar page. This English text appears at the top and bottom of each page, and "reads" as white from the following linen page. It can be read through the linen page, just below and above where the Persian calligraphic lines appear. The circular cut-outs on each page are successively smaller; the final cut on the colophon page reveals the stainless steel base. Combinations of four different inks were used to print each of the lithographs resulting in each page appearing slightly darker as the concentric "circles" become smaller. The poet / translator's words on the significance of Rumi's poetry explain her work. ".the most remarkable biographical information about Jalaluddin Rumi's life is not the appearance and disappearance of the mystic Shams, but Rumi's imperative and conscious decision to make a change in his career from a Sufi teacher to a poet. Here the medium is truly the message: the most successful Sufi teacher of all times with countless devoted followers chooses to communicate through the path of poetry. This masterful poet combines philosophy, mysticism, and psychology in a language so piercing as to enter the realm of music. It is this element more than any other which has made Rumi's poetry so irresistible to readers for over seven hundred years, even through the fire of translation." Fran Siegel, currently a Professor of Drawing and Painting at California State University Long Beach, graduated from Yale with an MFA and Temple's Tyler School of Art. She has had numerous solo exhibitions, as well as group shows, and was the US Representative at the IX International Bienal of Cuenca Ecuador. Her collaboration with Vincent FitzGerald & Company results in an astonishing book. The other collaborators include Kelly Driscoll, who created the art for FRAGMENTS OF LIGHT II and Milgo Bufkin (stainless steel base) who has worked with well-known visual artists such as Ellsworth Kelly and Robert Indiana. Well-known printer and book designer, Jerry Kelly, has worked with FitzGerald for over 25 years, helping produce very beautiful books. The Dieu Donne paper used for this book is incredibly strong and yet translucent. Mr. FitzGerald, once again, has assumed the role of "Maestro" for these individual performers, leading and coordinating their elegant performance for our benefit. See an Image. Transitions. Chromogenic Prints by Judith Turner.

Vincent FitzGerald & Co., [New York 2009 - Portfolio of ten chromogenic prints on metallic paper, one of 20 copies only, each print numbered and initialed in pencil on the reverse by the photographer, Judith Turner, who has also signed her name on the colophon in pencil. Page size: 4-15/16 x 4-15/16 inches, 10 individual prints. Bound: loose as issued and housed in clear plastic box with front cover sliding out by Just Plastic. Titlepage / colophon page letterpress printed by Kelly-Winterton in black on gray paper. Judith Turner, noted New York photographer, took these haunting images over a period of six months. They were photographed under water, chronicling the life and death of a plant. Noted for her images of architecture, published in trade books since 1979, and by the private press, Vincent FitzGerald & Co., since 1990, she brings a solidity of shape and concreteness to the transitory water lily. The use of Kodak's silver paper for these images presents an illusive shimmer to the plant in water - suggesting the play of sunlight that would occur in the plant's natural habitat.Ms. Turner's photography is held by many institutions including the Canadian Center for Architecture, the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, Japan, Tel Aviv Museum, Tel Aviv, Israel, and the International Center for Photography and the Brooklyn Museum, among others. She has received numerous awards and grants including in 2007 a Star of Design Award in Photography by the Design Center of New York and in 1994 the American Institute of Architects Award. Format in-folio( 33,8 x 24,5 cm )( 4600 gr ). --------- 816 pages .

Nouveau Monde - Paris 2009. 1 volume/1. -- Parfait état - Broché cousu. Format in-4°( 30,2 x 22 cm )( 2510 gr ) ------ XXXVIII-648 pages richement illustrées. A fine copy of this exhibition catalog, distinguished in this instance by Koons' ironically deadpan, purposefully rudimentary drawing of a sailboat on a placid sea beneath a shining sun and wheeling seagulls, an inside inside joke. Koons is the artist of our times.

Outside Inside (Signed First Edition, 3 Volumes)

Germany: Steidl, 2009. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. As New. This is a signed first edition of \"Outside Inside\" published by Steidl, Germany in 2009. From the publisher: \"Outside Inside\" is a gorgeous three-volume box set of 800 photographs drawn from this master photographer\'s immense archive. Chosen by Davidson himself, the selection spans a 60-year career, and features such seminal bodies of work as Circus (1958), Brooklyn Gang (1959), East 100th Street (1966-1968), The Civil Rights Movement (1961-1965), Subway (1980) and Central Park (1992-1995), as well as his two most recent works in progress - a series of urban landscapes made in Paris (2007) and Los Angeles (2009) - and many unpublished photographs. The pages in these volumes document Davidson\'s passionate and progressive vision, a vision that bears witness to several decades of volatile change in twentieth-century America. Born in 1933 in Oak Park, Illinois, Bruce Davidson\'s prolific career began in 1949, when he began taking photographs as a precocious 16-year-old. In 1954, he studied at Yale University with the great teacher and artist, Josef Albers, working briefly as a freelance photographer for Life magazine before joining Magnum Photos in 1958, after a meeting with one of its founders, Henri Cartier-Bresson. Davidson was given a Gold Medal Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Arts Club in 2007. His work has been extensively published in monographs and is included in many major collections around the world. Measuring approximately 15.5 x 15.5 x 8 inches (22 pounds) and containing over 800 tritone plates, the 3 books are bound in cloth covered boards with a tipped-on cover image and are housed in a custom slipcase. The books and slipcase are still in the original publisher\'s box. The slipcase has been signed by Bruce Davidson in silver pen just below the title. This signing took place on October 5, 2010 at Barnes and Noble in New York City and a photograph of the signing appears at the end of this listing. The books and slipcase are in As New condition.

Epistolae familiares. Including: ZACCHIA, Laudivius. ... in epistolas Turci magni traductio. (Colophon: Strassburg, Johann Schott for Georg Übelin, 8 August 1510). 4to. 19th-century half calf, tiger marbled sides, tiger marbled paste-downs (rebacked, with original backstrip laid down).

Brunet V, col. 612; Graesse VI, p. 538; VD 16, S10390 (8 copies); cf. Meserve, Empires of Islam in Renaissance historical thought (2009), p. 228; not in Adams. First dated edition of Epistolae familiares containing 343 letters by the Roman statesman and orator Quintus Aurelius Symmachus (ca. 345-402), addressed to a wide circle of relations, friends, and acquaintances and all written in a refined style. Although many of them are only short notes, together they provide a fascinating window into the late Roman senatorial aristocracy. The priority of the editions is uncertain, but what is often considered the first was published in Venice between 1503 and 1513.The main text is followed by a spurious collection of letters from and to the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II (1432-1481), but actually written by the humanist Laudivius Zacchia. "The so-called Epistolae magni Turci begin with a letter from Mehmed ... to Zancassanus, 'King of Persia'. As in the rest of the collection, the exchange follows a set pattern: angry, menacing boasts from the sultan, followed by a reply from the threatened party, which parries the worst of the bluster and thus rhetorically disarms the Turk" (Meserve). The book, first published in 1473, was a success and reprinted numerous times well into the 17th-century, undoubtedly because many Europeans feared the advancing Ottoman Empire (the Battle of Mohács was to give the Ottomans a decisive victory in Hungray in 1526).The present edition is the first combined edition of the two works. Another edition including both works was published only two months later by another Strassburg publisher Johann Grüninger on 9 October 1510. A line for line reprint of the present edition was published in 1511.With some underscoring and a few annotations in the margins. Paper slightly browned with a few occasional spots. Binding rebacked. Good copy.

Psalm print: Exaudi Domine with Diamond Dust

London: Other Criteria,, 2009. Silkscreen with glaze and diamond dust on wove paper. Sheet size: 74 x 71.5 cm. Excellent condition. Presented in a white brushed aluminium frame with UV preventive glass. Edition of 50. Signed in pencil lower middle by Hirst, numbered lower left. Hirst's Psalm prints draw directly from the butterfly collages of his larger gloss paintings. With the butterfly wings separated and ordered in a mandala-like pattern, their arrangement mimics the precision of a collector's display. Also calling to mind the exquisite stained glass of Europe's great cathedrals, the wings of these creatures unite the celestial and the earthly to present us with the possibility of beauty in death.

Each print is signed by Jamie Baldridge. The first 17 numbered editions also contain a separate portfolio of 13 signed free-standing prints that appear in the book. Each edition is numbered and signed by the artist, the editor and the publisher. The worldwide photography community pays tribute to the years most outstanding photographic achievements at the annual Lucie Awards ceremony. The Lucies recognize men and women whose life\'s work in photography merits the highest acclaim by their peers. The books, prints, and cases are all in PRISTINE condition. From the publisher, To say that Jamie Baldridge is an imaginative genius is to state what will be obvious to anyone who views The Everywhere Chronicles, though readers of the tale he wrote to accompany the photographs may decide he is an escapee from the Mad Hatter\'s Tea Party. Using sumptuous colors and the most bizarre, sometimes zany, often mystical imagery, Baldridge reveals a world he has miraculously imagined. He then takes us on tour through the whimsical travelogue he has written to accompany his masterful photographs. His guidebook may be a little mad, but his photographs are no collection of elaborate jests and spoofs. They are the stuff of archetypes, and they transport us to mythic places of the mind, of memory, and of histories not yet written. In a natural evolution, 21ST Editions (a unique publisher known throughout the world for its mastery of classic photographic processes such as platinum prints, hand-pulled photogravure and silver gelatin photographs) has utilized color pigment ink printing for the first time with The Everywhere Chronicles. This is due to the fact that we at 21ST Editions wish to stay true to the original and preferred medium of the artist, who works exclusively in pigment ink and who personally printed and signed each photograph himself. The result is our first color book, one that reflects our decade long commitment to creating the finest photography books in existence, incorporating the widest range of original processes available.
