Gottingen: Steidel, 2009. First edition. As new, no flaws. The exhibition catalog for Frank's much-acclaimed 2009 show at the National Gallery in Washington, DC. This copy signed on the title page by the photographer. As close to a one-volume career summary as it is possible to come to for this artist, a sharp and penetrating examination of his masterpiece, the process of its composition and its afterlife. An extremely difficult signature on a beautiful copy and uncommonly rare as such.

        Jeff Koons: Hulk Elvis

New York: Rizzoli / Gagosian, 2009. First edition. As new; no jacket, as issued. This copy signed on the title page with a drawing by the artist. A fine copy of this exhibition catalog, distinguished in this instance by Koons' ironically deadpan, purposefully rudimentary drawing of a sailboat on a placid sea beneath a shining sun and wheeling seagulls, an inside inside joke. Koons is the artist of our times.

Epistolae familiares. Including: ZACCHIA, Laudivius. ... in epistolas Turci magni traductio. (Colophon: Strassburg, Johann Schott for Georg Übelin, 8 August 1510). 4to. 19th-century half calf, tiger marbled sides, tiger marbled paste-downs (rebacked, with original backstrip laid down).

Brunet V, col. 612; Graesse VI, p. 538; VD 16, S10390 (8 copies); cf. Meserve, Empires of Islam in Renaissance historical thought (2009), p. 228; not in Adams. First dated edition of Epistolae familiares containing 343 letters by the Roman statesman and orator Quintus Aurelius Symmachus (ca. 345-402), addressed to a wide circle of relations, friends, and acquaintances and all written in a refined style. Although many of them are only short notes, together they provide a fascinating window into the late Roman senatorial aristocracy. The priority of the editions is uncertain, but what is often considered the first was published in Venice between 1503 and 1513.The main text is followed by a spurious collection of letters from and to the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II (1432-1481), but actually written by the humanist Laudivius Zacchia. "The so-called Epistolae magni Turci begin with a letter from Mehmed ... to Zancassanus, 'King of Persia'. As in the rest of the collection, the exchange follows a set pattern: angry, menacing boasts from the sultan, followed by a reply from the threatened party, which parries the worst of the bluster and thus rhetorically disarms the Turk" (Meserve). The book, first published in 1473, was a success and reprinted numerous times well into the 17th-century, undoubtedly because many Europeans feared the advancing Ottoman Empire (the Battle of Mohács was to give the Ottomans a decisive victory in Hungray in 1526).The present edition is the first combined edition of the two works. Another edition including both works was published only two months later by another Strassburg publisher Johann Grüninger on 9 October 1510. A line for line reprint of the present edition was published in 1511.With some underscoring and a few annotations in the margins. Paper slightly browned with a few occasional spots. Binding rebacked. Good copy.

Psalm print: Exaudi Domine with Diamond Dust

London: Other Criteria,, 2009. Silkscreen with glaze and diamond dust on wove paper. Sheet size: 74 x 71.5 cm. Excellent condition. Presented in a white brushed aluminium frame with UV preventive glass. Edition of 50. Signed in pencil lower middle by Hirst, numbered lower left. Hirst's Psalm prints draw directly from the butterfly collages of his larger gloss paintings. With the butterfly wings separated and ordered in a mandala-like pattern, their arrangement mimics the precision of a collector's display. Also calling to mind the exquisite stained glass of Europe's great cathedrals, the wings of these creatures unite the celestial and the earthly to present us with the possibility of beauty in death.

From the publisher: "Over the course of his long career Bruce Davidson has travelled the world making reportage stories both on assignment as a member of the Magnum agency and on subjects of personal interest. A few years ago he returned to his archive of negatives housed in a room in his Manhattan apartment and began a ritual of revisiting each and every one of the stories he had made, from his work as a student in 1954 to his urban landscapes in Los Angeles in 2009. Printing in his darkroom alongside the archive, he began to elaborate a very personal selection, discovering forgotten images and throwing new light onto some of his most famous series. Outside Inside is the result of this work, a sumptuous three volume box set with fifty-three chapters over 800 pages. Each chapter is introduced by a short text written by Davidson himself. The result is a celebration of the development of a master of the medium and an autobiography, a photographer's life seen through his work." [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

The poem (same as in OUTSIDE MYSELF 4), whimsical with a child-like simplicity and rhyme, is accompanied by thick (three-dimensional) broad-stroked images of a marionette with leg askew on child&#39;s ball, the puppet laying down as the sun comes peeking up over the horizon, with wild-looking swirls of ribbons in colors of purple and gold, followed by images of children peacefully in their beds with brightly colored coverlets while the toys mayhem surrounds them. This second poem in the series is in the voice of a child&#39;s toy. The poem starts, "Outside myself / there is a great big room / where I lie scattered with the other toys. / Exhausted from a night of going Zoom / and racing up and down with little boys. / Clutching paper jets we all karoomed while marionettes whirled wildly spreading joy. For night had banished crankiness & gloom..." The poems ends, "...but toys must wait for night to have their fun..." Simple enough text until the lettering takes on a whirling Dervish quality - as do the objects in the room: marionettes, children in their beds. All is askew - and the image of a peaceful nursery upended. A thoroughly enjoyable, charming book demanding regular re-visits. Certainly this would appeal to the child in any reader. <br>See an <A HREF= >Image.</A><br>

The Compendium Finale of Contemporary Jewellers 2008

Darling publ. 2009. hardcover, 2 volumes, 2400 pag. ! 13.55kg. .Most important contemporary of jewellers of 2008 !! very good edition with illustrations on each page in color. A totally fantastic experience showing this colossal workThe Compendium of Contemporary Jewellery Makers in two Volumes, Part One, 2008 This 13,5 Kilo, 2400 pages Opus Maximus was released 14 March 2009 during the International Schmuck 2009 Fair and already nicknamed by many jewellers as "the Messiah" as it was eagerly awaited since a year and was expected to bring great relief in the sleepless nights of jewellers from 54 nations. At the Compendium Party during the release, over 1000 visitors could catch a glance at the most rumoured and gossiped about publication of 2008, and managed to empty over 180 bottles with alcoholic content within a couple of hours (at daytime!). 132 lucky jewellers could carry their boxed copies home (although quite many of them somehow underestimated the physical weight of 14 kilos!). During the waiting time for the rest of the edition to be bound (by hand!) it is expected that the nickname "Messiah" will be still valid, although a big difference is that The Compendium did show up.The Compendium will show on a never done before scale and manner what is happening in 2008 in the entire worldwide Contemporary Jewellery scene. Jewellery Artists from 54 nations has been nominated by Jewellery Artists. The 1st purpose of Andy Lim, the publisher and editor, is to try to establish Contemporary Jewellery as an equally respected art form in the Contemporary Art and to create a platform, not to be neglected, which will be reached already by its sheer volume and power of 1044 artists, united in one single publication. It is not only a book about 1000 jewellers, it is a book created by 1000 jewellers, as every jeweller have the full freedom of a 2-page presentation a person. The alphabetical order of presentation secures a non hierarchical and non political ranking. The publishers 2nd purpose is to discover beyond the already wellknown and established artists (ca. 300) interesting positions of contemporary jewellery. And who are better talent scouts than the artists themselves Who are more aware than anybody else of what collegues are doing They are at the cradle of the work process. And as 3rd, but not least goal: to present an astonishing bibliophile book in an unsurpassed quality of the highest standards in the Art of Bookmaking. - 2 Volume Hardcover in the Lim-slipcase with separate pull out system. - Bound in the Final Edition of the stunning Techno Fabric. - Print and handbinding entirely in Germany, as always with Darling Publications. - A stunning book where you discover everything your heart desires and covets. - An already legendary reference book, and that´s why a MUST for libraries, museums, galleries, design lovers and the serious art and book collectors. As Bruce Metcalf explained to somebody during the making of the Compendium: "It's true there's no overarching curatorial viewpoint - by design. Lim wanted to make the selection process more open

THE SATYR&#39;S SERMON. By the Hand and Eye of Alogos. Deluxe edition, bound in full morocco, with hand-made oak box, accompanied by a sacramental talisman of the Corpus Satyri

No Place: Xoanon Publishing, MMIX [2009]. No Place: Xoanon Publishing, MMIX [2009]. First Edition, First Printing. Leather Bound. Fine in Slipcase and Hand Made Oak Box. Small oblong quarto, original full brown morocco. 84 pp. Letterpress printed in red, black and gold. The Deluxe edition, bound in full morocco, strictly limited to 111 numbered copies, this being copy Number 80. In a specially hand-made oak box, accompanied by a sacramental talisman of the Corpus Satyri, as issued. A fine copy in box with Talisman. ¶ Completed in early 2004, the Sermon formed a portion of the "Monadic Transmission" series of texts originally issued in hand-written, hand-illustrated editions of one copy only. This unique grimoire concerns the sorcerous precept of Unfettered Desire, as expounded in parable form by the twin sexual hypostases of the Sabbatic Agapae. The book gives voice to a connubial dialectic patterned upon 26 aphoristic formulae or "Sermons" and their accompanying calligraphic sigils. As a whole, the book exposits diverse formulae of magical adoration, invoking the eternal mystae of The Beloved. The original 2004 manuscript of &#39;The Satyr&#39;s Sermon&#39; was accompanied by a sigilised communion wafer divided into four parts -- the &#39;Corpus Satyri&#39;. The talisman that was made for the deluxe version of the book is based on the original.

        Unique Spray Painted Book

New York: 38th Street Publishers, (2009). New York: 38th Street Publishers, (2009). Just about fine in spray painted wrappers.. First Edition. Octavo. SIGNED and dated by Josh Smith on the rear panel. A selection of Xeroxed yellow page listings, magazine advertisements, and newspaper articles. With a unique cover, spray painted by the artist. Edited by Todd Amicon and Josh Smith. Smith&#39;s extensive commitment to book arts blurs the line between what goes on the wall and what stays between the pages. This dynamic tension is a trend among artists of Smith&#39;s generation who see the book not just as a repository of images for a catalogue, but rather as a fully mature form of expression.
