New York: Simon & Schuster, 2004. First Edition. First Printing. Octavo (22cm); white and gray paper-covered boards, with titles stamped in silver on spine; dustjacket; [6], 299, [1]pp. Mild wear to spine ends, with a handful of tiny spots to upper edge of textblock; Near Fine. Dustjacket is unclipped (priced $24.00), with corresponding light wear to spine ends and corners; Near Fine. First volume of Dylan's memoirs, this copy from the library of Israel "Izzy" Young," founder and owner of the Folklore Center in Greenwich Village, who gave refuge to a young Bob Dylan when he first came to New York in 1961, and who produced Dylan's first concert there. In Chronicles, Dylan remembers him affectionately on pp.18-22. Extensively annotated throughout by Young, with more than 190 pages annotated and/or with reader's marks by him, providing commentary on Dylan's own observations and other memories of Dylan during his early days in Greenwich Village. This copy bears the following note beneath the first chapter heading: "26 October 2004. This book consists of five parts. I'll read it in five days, not necessarily in order, perhaps in two weeks time - this is my personal copy - with my first thoughts as I read page by page and chapter by chapter. Izzy Young." An additional note in Young's hand on the rear flyleaf states: "October 2004 from Bob Dylan's office." Attempting to weigh the quality of Young's annotations, when read alongside Dylan's words, the reader encounters "a book-within-a-book," the narrative of which vacillates between agreeing and being at odds with Dylan. Facts, dates, corrections, and memories emerge - some clear, others non-linear - all of which serve to provide a unique historical perspective on Dylan and his times from a close friend and insider. Pasted in at the back of the book is Izzy's computer-generated liner notes to the reissue of Karen Dalton's 1968 LP - Karen a blues singer and guitarist whom Dylan had met and performed with in Denver the summer of 1960 (as described in Chronicles on p. 12). Young's annotations end with a 17-line, 160-word note about Karen Dalton, and his upcoming visit to Seattle to see Dylan and Jeff Rosen [Dylan's lawyer]: "Karen Dalton is not noticed in any of the Dylan biographies, and neither is she named in the scholarly books on folk music. So we [i.e. Dylan and Izzy] are agreed on her and we are alone in this matter. Bob Dylan was sent a copy of the article by Jeff Rosen ... I have no insight as to what will happen there [in Seattle] ... There will be many surprises for me, I am sure of that..." Also pasted in at the back is a printed email dated April 7, 2005 from Sam Charters asking Izzy to annotate a copy of Dylan's Chronicles for the Charters Music Archive in Storrs, CT: "The reason I ask you to do this annotated edition for the Archive is that I believe you have a unique contribution to make to our understanding of an important era in the development of American popular culture. Because of the close involvement that you and Dylan had ... I feel your annotated copy of the book will be of considerable use to scholars...

N.p., N.p. 2004 - Vintage double weight photograph of Amos Vogel, taken by Gerard Malanga and gifted by Malanga to Vogel in 2004. Malanga's trademark name blindstamp is at the bottom right corner of the image, and he has inscribed the verso: "Amos Vogel, founder of Cinema 16 / October 22, 2004 / Gerard Malanga." Below is Malanga's stamped copyright.Included is an autograph letter signed by Malanga to Vogel, dated March 3, 2005, where Malanga says that he is enclosing 3 prints, two for Vogel's children, and that the prints were made before Christmas 2004.From the estate of Amos Vogel.Gerard Malanga is an American poet, photographer, filmmaker, curator, and archivist. He is noted for his creative presence in Andy Warhol's earliest work, including the development of Warhol's "Screen Tests," his performances in early Warhol films, his choreography for early performances by the Velvet Underground, and his work as a founding editor of "Interview" magazine. He also made an important series of avant garde films in the late 1960s, and beginning in 1970 he reinvented himself with great success as a photographer, shooting now-legendary portraits of some of the most important artists and creative thinkers of his era.Amos Vogel (1921-2012) was one of the most influential cineastes in New York City. He is best known for his bestselling book "Film as a Subversive Art" (1974) and as the founder of the New York City avantgarde ciné-club Cinema 16 (1947-1963), where he was the first programmer to present films by Roman Polanski, John Cassavetes, Nagisa Oshima, Jacques Rivette and Alain Resnais as well as early and important screenings by American avant-gardists of the time like Stan Brakhage, Maya Deren, James Broughton, Kenneth Anger, Sidney Peterson, Bruce Conner, Carmen D'Avino and many others. In 1963, together with Richard Roud, he founded the New York Film Festival, and served as its program director until 1968. In 1973, Vogel started the Annenberg Cinematheque at the University of Pennsylvania and was eventually given a Chair for film studies at the Annenberg School for Communication, where he taught and lectured for two decades.11 x 14 inches.         TRASH ZAPPING PIXEL Mister Trash Facendo Zapping Fa Incontri Tra i Pixel - Novella Visuale In Undici Quadri

VIAPPIANI, 2004.

Tokyo, Japan: Daido Moriyama Studios, 2004. First Edition. First Printing.. Other. As New/No Dust Jacket, As Issued.. Tokyo, Japan: Daido Moriyama Studios, 2004. Other. As New/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 1 pages. Rare Daido Moriyama contemporary print. Framed Original Chromogenic ("Dye-Coupler") Print of "Carousel", signed by Daido Moriyama. The print measures 8 X 10 inches. Full frame size is 17 X 14 inches. Professionally (and beautifully) framed on solid black wood and Plexiglas by Craig Cotsones/Stephen Daiter Gallery Chicago. Processed on FujiColor paper. Eminently suitable for display. Without DJ, as issued. Presents, in a collectible framed format, Daido Moriyama's "Carousel". One of the photographer's single most beautiful images, it perfectly captures Moriyama's aesthetic: To make us keenly aware of the photograph as the product of a mechanical instrument (the camera) and of the person behind the camera (the photographer) as the witness to the constant flow and throbbing intensity of the world. "Taking a photograph does not mean to cut off a piece of time and place and save it as a record, but to remove color, palpability, smell, and sound from a time and place, and transpose the remnants into a distribution of varying densities of equivalent light and shadow. To take a photograph is to fragment the comprehensive sensory data" (Daido Moriyama). Flow, intensity, and fragments that build up to a cumulative and ecstatic visual experience: This is Moriyama's highly influential conception of photography. An absolute "must-have" original print for Daido Moriyama collectors. <b><i> This framed original chromogenic ("dye-coupler") print of "Carousel" is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed in black pen-marker on recto by Daido Moriyama. As far as we know, this is the only print available online, is professionally (and beautifully) framed on solid black wood and Plexiglas, and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. Please note: Moriyama prints command thousands of dollars from his galleries. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed print thus. </b></i> 1 original print. The greatest Japanese photographer of our time. A flawless collectible print. (SEE ALSO OTHER DAIDO MORIYAMA TITLES IN OUR CATALOG).
