        CARTULAIRE DE REDON - Cartulaire de l'Abbaye Saint-Sauveur de Redon ------------ TOMES 1 & 2

AHID - Tours 2004. 2 volumes/2. TOMES 1 & 2 . Reliures éditeur cartonnées pleines toiles bordeaux . Format in-folio( 37,3 x 26,8 cm )( 4270 gr ). '' ************************************* [Attributes: Hard Cover]

13 Divided by 14. Figures Drawn from the Loculus of Archimedes. Reflections on "Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird"

Minneapolis, MN: Mnemonic Press. 2004. One of 50 copies, all on Magnani Pescia 150gsm paper, each numbered and signed in pencil by the artist on the colophon. Page size: 10 inches x 14 inches; 64 pages with the figures and poem printed on rectos and the stanza numbers on versos. Bound by Jill Jevne: quarter black goatskin and boards covered in silver Japanese book cloth with blackbird foil-stamped in matte black, housed in publisher&#39;s gray cloth slipcase, fine. The book is set in Delphin II, Delphin I, and Trump handset from foundry metal type originally cast by Stempel and Ludwig & Mater and Viva (from Adobe Systems) for display. The book was designed and printed in collaboration with Philip Gallo at The Hermetic Press. The 14 shapes that comprise the "Loculus," sometimes called the "Stomachion," were drawn and arranged by Bart, scanned and converted to polymer plates from which they were printed. Attributed to Archimedes, the dissection puzzle game that is so central to this book, requires that a square with a 12 x 12 grid be divided into 14 pieces of 3, 4, and 5 sided polygons in such a way that the vertices of the polygons are on the grid points. Barring rotations and reflections, Bill Cutler in 2003 enumerated 536 solutions. 13 DIVIDED BY 14 uses the reflected version of Cutler Solution 17. The text of "Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird" by Wallace Stevens alternates with the striking black images created and arranged by Bart so that they soar and dive as does the text. This is a striking book of contrasts ingeniously and beautifully bringing together a puzzle and a poem. <br>See an <A HREF= >Image.</A><br>

Tempete et Calme. Poeme de Jules Verne

Octon, France: Verdigris Press. 2004. One of 38 copies only, all on Hahnemuhle paper, each copy hand-numbered and signed by the artist Judith Rothchild and the printer, Mark Lintott. Page size: 11-3/4 inches x 5-15/16 inches; 4 leaves + colophon printed on gray paper mounted on inside rear cover. Bound by Mark Lintott: leporello style, but on the vertical, original screen prints by Judith Rothchild in subtle shades of gray on the front and back boards, with gray silk ribbon pull at bottom of front board, housed in publisher&#39;s clamshell box of gray paper, title printed in black on front panel, lined with screen prints made by Rothchild in shades of gray, fine. & Jules Verne&#39;s poem was written in 1848 when the author was just 20. The poem literally passes through a storm before reaching safe haven on the other side. The text is superimposed on a series of four of Rothchild&#39;s ominous mezzotints which start with a threatening sky, go to the complete blackness of the storm and then to clouds quickly moving to sunlight. The text is hand set and letterpress printed in Vendome romain on an Albion press by Mark Lintott. Considering world events of 1848, Verne shows himself to be an optimist with this moving verse admirably served by Rothchild&#39;s handsome images which really give a sense of the speed and drama of the storm. Meticulously crafted, this is a lovely book. Selected for inclusion in Wellesley College exhibition and catalogue, RESONANCE AND RESPONSE (2005).

Cinq Continents - Paris 2004. 1 Volume/1. -- Parfait état -- Reliure éditeur cartonnée sous jaquette illustrée . Format oblong in-4°( 30 x 24 cm )( 1345 gr ). The Writer

San Francisco, CA: Pacific Editions. 2004. One of 54 copies, a two-part limited edition, the larger book is printed on BFK Rives paper and the second volume - a flip book, or rather a "flutter book" is printed on card stock. Each copy is hand numbered and signed by the artist / printer / designer, Charles Hobson, on the colophon page. Page size: 11-1/8 inches x 7-15/16 inches; 16pp; plus 8pp. of images interleaved for large book; "flutter book" is 3-3/8 inches x 5-1/8 inches; 50pp. Bound: blue cloth spine with yellow and blue paste paper over boards, white label pasted to front panel for larger book; "flutter book" laid into oblong slipcase of blue linen with papers made from the artist&#39;s striking bird images. Both books are housed in a clamshell box designed to both hold the books and to act as a platform from which to read the two volumes in conjunction with one another. The edition in its box measures 12 inches x 12 inches x 1-1/4 inches. & Charles Hobson has created not so much an illustrated edition of a well-known literary work, but more an interactive event for the reader / viewer and artist and author. The very act of "reading" Hobson&#39;s book is interpreting Wilbur&#39;s warm and gentle poem conveying a parent&#39;s respect and love for his child as she begins the voyage into adulthood. The larger volume is printed letterpress by Hobson in 14-point courier, with the assistance of Les Ferriss. The letterpress pages are interleaved with vellum pages containing hand-painted patterns printed as digital pigment prints into which have been hand cut the shapes of starlings in flight, a motif that is central to the poem. Initially, the vellum pages obscure the text, but then lift off to reveal with a flutter and a flap, the words of the poem.& The smaller volume, or flip book, is hinged at the foredge and scored so it can open like an accordion. It contains selected words taken from the poem that reprise the poem with a new cadence. It is contained loose in its cover so that it can be held in the hand and ruffled with the fingers so as to set the starlings in flight, a visual metaphor derived from Wilbur&#39;s words. The poet&#39;s wish for his child is simple and heartfelt. The final pages of the book contain an original monotype printed over text from the poem, reproduced as a digital pigment print, which carries with it the feeling of uncertain first flight the father is sensing in his daughter. A larger version of this image, on BFK Rives and hand colored by Hobson is laid into the back cover of the clamshell box. This monotype is 6-1/2 inches x 5-3/4 inches and has a vellum 8 inch x 11 inch overlay printed with the word "cargo." <br>See an <A HREF= >Image.</A><br>

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: Hand-colored Laser Prints.

Great Barrington, MA Michael McCurdy 2004 - Quarto. One of eight copies. A suite of twenty-five laser prints of drawings by Michael McCurdy, each hand-colored, signed, and numbered by the artist. The drawings were originally done by McCurdy at the request of the University Press of Kansas, which commissioned the artist to illustrate its Kansas Centennial Edition of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz in 1999. McCurdy's drawings are bold and strong, yet still dream-like, providing a new interpretation of Baum's classic children's tale. The prints are carefully hand-colored with subtle tints and tone. The prints are housed in an emerald green clamshell box, together with a copy of the book, which is signed by the artist with an original drawing of the Scarecrow. In addition to McCurdy's illustrations, the Centennial Edition features a Foreword by Ray Bradbury. Extremely fine.

Buenos Aires, Argentina: Luis Gonzalez Palma Studio, 2004. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. As New/No Dust Jacket, As Issued.. Buenos Aires, Argentina: Luis Gonzalez Palma Studio, 2004. Hardcover. As New/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 1 pages. Rare Luis Gonzalez Palma collectible piece. A pristine copy of "El Amor Coagulado" vintage original print framed on thick, museum-standard Plexiglas under the direct supervision of the artist/photographer. Limited Edition of 15 copies. Gonzalez Palma editions and does not reissue any of his prints once the edition is sold out. An austerely elegant production by Luis Gonzalez Palma: Gallery print-size format. Actual size is 20 X 24 inches. The piece weighs 10 pounds. Vintage original print by Luis Gonzalez Palma. Every print in the edition is unique: The artist/photographer produced the image in Kodalith then hand-pasted solid 22-karat gold leaf embedded with resin over it. The way that the actual print glows radiantly against the light cannot be captured in any printed or digital reproduction of it. Without DJ, as issued. Presents one of Luis Gonzalez Palma&#39;s most beautiful images, "El Amor Coagulado" (2004). "Coagulated Love" represents work that takes his Romanticism in a new direction. Impeccably conceived and produced, it is part of current work that mines such timeless subjects as the passage of time, the dream-like character of memory, and the fundamentally subjective nature of reality. Instead of gazing at the viewer, we see only the Woman&#39;s back. The wider view, which shows a Colonial-ornate room setting, momentarily distracts the viewer from the image&#39;s singular "touch", a Man&#39;s hand on her left shoulder. A lyrical meditation on the dream-like character of love, which is an abstract idea and a concrete reality at the same time, "Coagulated Love" is presence as absence, absence as presence. The Woman is visible but because we do not see her face, she somehow remains invisible to us, a virtual absence. The Man is invisible but because we do see his hand, he somehow becomes visible to us, a ghostly presence. "Gonzalez Palma&#39;s images unfold with increasing significance, resulting in an underlying sense of tension and foreboding that is only slightly eased by their sheer loveliness" (A. D. Miller). "I manipulate in order to emphasize the heart-rending" (Luis Gonzalez Palma). A "must-have" print for Luis Gonzalez Palma collectors. <b><i> This vintage original print is Number 8 in the Edition of 15, indicated as such in the Certificate of Authenticity issued by Luis Gonzalez Palma through his American gallery. As far as we know, this is the only copy available online and has absolutely no flaws, a pristine beauty. The value of Luis Gonzalez Palma&#39;s prints has increased significantly over the years and will continue to do so. A rare print thus. </b></i> One of the finest living Latin-American artist/photographers. A flawless collectible print. (SEE ALSO OTHER LUIS GONZALEZ PALMA TITLES IN OUR CATALOG).

The History Boys. An original hand-corrected script for the very first production of Bennett&#39;s multi-award-winning play

2004. Ninety-two loose-leaved hole-punched sheets printed on rectos only. The cover sheet shows the printed text "Typed 13th January 2004 / Revised 20th January 2004 / Revised 18th February 2004" and then in Bennett&#39;s hand "Revised 16 March 2004" - just two days prior to the opening night. There are corrections and alterations in Bennett&#39;s hand on almost every page, some in pencil and others in red ink, including the replacement of a number lines by much lengthier monologues, this new text occasionally written onto the adjacent versos. In other instances replacement sheets with new dialogue have been taped over the original text or onto the versos, and some of these revisions then subsequently altered. Also included are two copies of the actors scripts, unbound A5 format, printed on both sides; the first a printed version dated 13th January 2004, and the second a photocopied typeset undated version, but clearly one of the first two revisions and including further printed alterations. These scripts came from the collection of Andrew Speed, Stage Manager of the National Theatre who occasionally appeared in certain performances as and when stand-ins were required. Almost anybody connected with the production could be called upon at any time to make up the numbers of the non-speaking cast - all that was needed was a white shirt, black trousers and the Cutlers&#39; Grammar School tie. Andrew&#39;s prop school tie is included with the scripts. A unique and very desirable item. The play opened at the Lyttelton Theatre in London on 18 May 2004 where it played to sell-out audiences and its limited run was frequently extended. Winner of the Evening Standard Award for Best Play and Best Actor (Richard Giffiths) with subsequent productions winning both a Laurence Olivier Award and Tony Award for Best Play.. No Binding. Very Good.
