Rowling, J.K
Scholastic Press, New York, 2003. First American edition of the fifth novel in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter Series. Octavo, original illustrated boards. Illustrated by Mary Grandpre. Signed by J.K. Rowling on the title page. Additionally signed on the half-title page by the four primary young adult cast members featured in the Harry Potter film series: Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), and Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy). Fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket illustration by Mary GrandPre. Jacket design by Mary GrandPre and David Snyder. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, more than any of the four previous novels in the series, is a coming-of-age story. Harry faces the thorny transition into adulthood, when adult heroes are revealed to be fallible, and matters that seemed black-and-white suddenly come out in shades of gray. Gone is the wide-eyed innocent, the whiz kid of Sorcerer's Stone. Here we have an adolescent who's sometimes sullen, often confused, and always self-questioning. Confronting death again, as well as a startling prophecy, Harry ends his year at Hogwarts exhausted and pensive. "The Order of the Phoenix starts slow, gathers speed and then skateboards, with somersaults, to its furious conclusion. As Harry gets older, Rowling gets better." (John Leonard, The New York Times). It was made into the 2007 film directed by David Yates, starring Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, alongside Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as Harry's best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Heaney, Seamus; Vendler, Helen (Introduction); LeWitt, Sol (Artist)
San Francisco: The Arion Press, 2003. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine. LeWitt, Sol. Number 116 of 426 copies, quarto size, 126 pp., signed by Seamus Heaney and Sol LeWitt. The sequence entitled "Squarings" first appeared in the volume "Seeing Things," published in 1991; the poems are squarish in shape, being constructed of twelve lines, in four three-line stanzas. To complement this work, artist Sol Le Witt (1928-2007) made forty-eight drawings, each six inches square, with underlying patterns which "are all atremble with promise - with the right combination of complete confident pounce and momentary delicate shimmer" (Seamus Heaney's comments upon reviewing the preliminary proof pages). ___DESCRIPTION: Bound in full grey decorated cloth, both boards stamped with black lines separating the boards into quadrants, with straight and wave-like lines within each quadrant, small square in the middle with title and author's name in black, title and the line pattern on the shelfback, illustrations set on the verso of each page opposite to its poem on the recto of the succeeding page; the poems handset in Deepdene type designed by Frederic W. Vallecchi, Firenze. Riproduzione facsimilare dell’originale. [Click Below for Full Description]

Heaney, Seamus; Vendler, Helen (Introduction); LeWitt, Sol (Artist)
San Francisco: The Arion Press, 2003. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine. LeWitt, Sol. Number 116 of 426 copies, quarto size, 126 pp., signed by Seamus Heaney and Sol LeWitt. Seamus Heaney (1939-2013), recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1995, has been described as "the most important Irish poet since Yeats" (Robert Lowell, per Wiki); upon his death in 2013, "The Independent" spoke of him as "probably the best-known poet in the world". Goudy, other text Monotype, quarto size (11.25" by 10.25"), unpaginated with 126 pages (each poem/illustration pair are numbered), limited edition of 400 cop … [Click Below for Full Description]
