Switzerland: Ink Tree, 2001 Switzerland: Ink Tree, 2001. Extreme tips of the top page edges lightly tapped, top rear cover gently bumped, else close to fine in white wrappers and folding card chemise, housed in a matching card slipcase.. First Edition. Thin folio. Number 172 of an edition of 300 numbered copies, SIGNED, dated, and numbered by Christopher Wool. A series of 23 reproductions of high-contrast photocopies of Wool's Polaroids of his abstract canvases, which have been layered with superimposed swathes of black and white paint. Printed in a grainy Xerox aesthetic reminiscent of Wool's 1993 photobook Absent Without Leave, this collection elucidates the central role of photography to his artistic process and practice. Photography remains the least well understood and documented component of Wool's oeuvre; his long-standing relationship with photographing his own work is of seminal importance.

        HATESHIP, FRIENDSHIP, COURTSHIP, LOVESHIP, MARRIAGE

Toronto, Canada: McClelland & Stewart, 2001. Toronto, Canada: McClelland & Stewart, 2001. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/Fine Dust Jacket.. Toronto, Canada: McClelland & Stewart, 2001. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition/First Printing. 323 pages. Rare Alice Munro collectible set. A rare signed copy of "Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage" with a rare copy of The New Yorker Magazine Millennial December 27, 1999/January 3, 2000 Issue. One of Alice Munro&#39;s greatest achievements. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions, particularly the American Edition. Published in a very small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now rare. Presents Alice Munro&#39;s tenth collection of short stories. Nine luminous pieces in which "men and women are subtly revealed. Personal histories, both complex and simple, unfold in rich detail of circumstance and feeling" (Publisher&#39;s blurb). The final story, "The Bear Came Over The Mountain", first appeared in The New Yorker Magazine Millennial Holiday Issue, was subsequently turned into a very fine film (entitled "Away From Her") by Sarah Polley. To celebrate Alice Munro&#39;s Nobel Prize win, it was published by The New Yorker in its entirety again (it&#39;s a novella-length story, taking up a third of the Issue, an unmistakable sign of The New Yorker&#39;s commitment to Munro in particular and its great writer-contributors in general) for its October 21, 2013 Issue. "A stunningly precise writer who is often able to say more in 30 pages than an ordinary novelist is capable of in 300. Munro writes about what are usually called ordinary people, but her intelligence, compassion, and astonishing power of perception enable her to give their lives a remarkable dignity, indeed redemption, since she shows how much of The Extraordinary can fit into that jam-packed emptiness called The Ordinary" (Nobel Prize Citation). An absolute "must-have" set for Alice Munro collectors. <B><i> This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on the title page by Alice Munro. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page or bookplate. It comes with a rare copy of The New Yorker Magazine Millennial Holiday Issue, in which the collection&#39;s "summing-up" story, "The Bear Came Over The Mountain", originally appeared. Throughout her long career, Munro made very few public appearances, and is a reluctant signer at best. As such, most of her books are signed on a bookplate, which are much less desirable than copies signed on either the title page or tipped-in page. This title is a classic. This is one of very few signed copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Beware: Most copies available online are subsequent printings or have serious flaws. A rare signed copy thus. </b></i> Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2013. One of the greatest living writers. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ALICE MUNRO TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 0771065256.

DU MODE D&#39;EXISTENCE DES OBJETS TECHNIQUES

Paris France: AUBIER, 2001. Book. Fine. Soft cover. Texte francais, couverture souple. État d&#39;usage: comme neuf. 333 pages.

        Tracht

New York: Lehmann Maupin, 2001. First Edition. Hardcover.. Fine/Fine. 4to. 64pp. Cream cloth in card slipcase. 76 colour plates with 2 gatefolds. First and only edition of 500 signed and numbered copies. More images available on request. Wonderful book in perfect condition. From Lehmann Maupin: "The only photographer ever given exclusive access to all the contestants of a Miss World¨ event, Teller spent eight hours in one evening taking brutally intimate head shots of all 88 contestants. Shot away from the stage and removed from the spotlights, the contestants--with caked on makeup, unwavering smiles, and bright eyes--start to appear interchangeable, like a carnival of culturally diverse Barbie dolls requiring lapel pins to indicate country of origin. Tracht is German for "costume," as in folkloric dress. Tracht is Teller&#39;s take on the dressing, the commodification beauty takes when pushed, much like the rest of fashion, to the extreme. The end effect of the ruthlessly efficient globalization of image manufacturing makes appearance artificial and style generic; what is left, then, but to extract its mesmerizing effect in the form of a sumptuously attractive artist&#39;s book, where one can truly revel in the mysteries of a world where Miss Israel looks more Californian than Miss USA, who in turn looks more Mittel European than Miss Estonia, who looks more Gaelic than Miss Ireland, who looks more Moorish thanÉ.Yet throughout, one cannot avoid noticing a certainÉsameness to these visages. Tracht deftly captures the costume of institutional modern beauty, and it is a thing to behold. Smartly sequenced by the acclaimed British design team Miles Murray Sorrell (FUEL), Tracht will leave you awash in beauty-world hyperbole. A perfect 10." Cited by Parr and Badger in the Photobook vol.2.

Collectors edition in a handmade clothbound box by Rottmann bookbinding, Berlin with a signed C-Print ( 30 x 40 cm), edition of 15 copies. Mit Beiträgen von Richard Sennett. Übersetzt von Sophie Lovell. Eine Sammlung von Bildern aus Pommern, Mecklenburg und Wisconsin. Wiebke Loeper zeigt in ihrem Buch Familienbilder zweier Männer. Limited, numbered edition of 750 copies.Limitierte, numerierte Edition in einer Auflage von 750 Exemplaren Photographer Wiebke Loeper shows in her book the family pictures of two men, side by side. Both were apprenticed as butchers in Pomerania - but from then on theier lives take widly disparate paths. Loeper traces their biographies. She discovers and compares their private lives as well as their day to day work in their respective butcher's shops in Wisconsin (USA) and Mecklenburg (former 'East Germany).Wiebke Loeper, born 1972 in East-Berlin, studied photography at the famous Leipzig "Hochschule fuer Grafik und Buchkunst", (HGB) with Professor Arno Fischer and Johannes Brohm.         DAME JULIANA: THE ANGLING TREATYSE AND ITS MYSTERIES. By Frederick Buller and Hugh Falkus.

Flyfisher's Classic Library. Moretonhampstead, Devon. - 2001 1st edition de luxe. Ppx,213,ad. Colour plates by Denys Ovenden, colour & b/w photographs, illustrations. Full goatskin gilt, silk marker. Fine copy in slip-case (with faint aroma of moth-balls). * The entire 500-year history of British angling literature is in a direct line of descent from a book that has caused more controversy than any other since. Almost nothing is known with certainty about The Treatyse of Fysshynge with an Angle. Some 30 years ago Hugh Falkus and Fred Buller set out to see what they could make of this. Despite being written in the rather obscure vocabulary and syntax of the 15th century, they knew that the text was insightful and intelligent. The author knew her or his subjectand wrote from experience and with considerable wisdom. After rendering thetext into modern English, they explored the evidence for and against the various opinions of the book's origins. Broadly favouring the traditional interpretations, they found fascinating reasons for accepting that it couldhave been written by "The Dame" at Sopwell, near the City of St. Albans. All of this has now been put together by Fred Buller, with help from Jack Heddon, Malcolm Greenhalgh, David Beazley, Professor Stephen Downes and Denys Ovenden. The result is a volume which celebrates the first, and in the opinion of some, the most significant book on angling in English or any other language. * This is copy number 46 of a limited de luxe edition of only 100 copies, and is signed and numbered by Fred Buller.         Glimpse

Portland and Berkeley: Triangular Press; Flying Fish Press, 2011. Fine. Number 55 of 100 copies. Signed by the highly regarded book artists, Julie Chen and Barbara Tetenbaum. In their statement about the book, they write: "Working together again after almost a decade (Ode to a Grand Staircase, 2001), Glimpse is a new collaboration ... inspired by a conversation about how a person translates their life experience into a narrative form: prominent events may stand out as the nameable moments, yet it is the space between these events that life, in fact, is lived." The mid-century photo album structure contains text written by Chen, examining this question. Her text is printed on both surfaces of each of the fifteen hinged sleeves. Windows in the sleeves reveal small glimpses of pull-out cards, each written and printed by Tetenbaum. The cards contain dates and events of the non-important moments of her life illustrated with diagrams, grids, and mundane imagery. Glimpse is letterpress printed using a combination of photopolymer plates, found images, wood blocks, wire, and handset type. It is housed in a box with magnetic closure. Box size: when closed: 8 1/8 inches x 11 3/4 inches x 1 1/8 inches.

        HATESHIP, FRIENDSHIP, COURTSHIP, LOVESHIP, MARRIAGE

Toronto, Canada: McClelland & Stewart, 2001. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/Fine Dust Jacket.. Toronto, Canada: McClelland & Stewart, 2001. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition/First Printing. 323 pages. Rare Alice Munro collectible set. A rare signed copy of "Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage" with a rare fine copy of The New Yorker Magazine Millennial December 27, 1999/January 3, 2000 Issue. Retrospective collection of short stories. One of the greatest short story collections of our time. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions, particularly the American Edition. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now rare. Presents Alice Munro&#39;s eleventh collection. Nine luminous stories in which "men and women are subtly revealed. Personal histories, both complex and simple, unfold in rich detail of circumstance and feeling" (Publisher&#39;s blurb). Alice Munro is regarded by critics and loyal readers alike as the greatest living writer of the short story in English: "Our Chekhov" (Cynthia Ozick). An absolute "must-have" set for Alice Munro collectors. <B><i> This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in black pen on the title page by Alice Munro. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page or bookplate. It comes with a rare fine copy of The New Yorker Magazine Millennial Holiday Issue, in which the collection&#39;s "summing-up" story, "The Bear Came Over The Mountain", first appeared.
