        Typescript of Night Dogs

1993. Anderson's dot-matrix printout of a draft of what became the prologue and first chapter of his second novel. 24 pages, with extensive differences between this version and the published version. With a handwritten signed note by Anderson across the top of the first page, saying, in part, that he thinks the novel will be finished in another six weeks. Night Dogs was one of the most eagerly awaited novels of its time, but its publication was delayed as different publishers vied for it but no deal was reached for the publication rights. It was finally published in 1996 by Dennis McMillan, a small press/fine press publisher, primarily of limited editions. Later, in 1998, there was a publication by a major trade publishing house, Bantam, which had merged with Doubleday, the publisher of Anderson's first novel. This is a very early segment of the work-in-progress. Marked by a rusty paper clip, else fine. No Binding.

The Great American Horse Race of 1976 / A Photographic Documentary (SIGNED BY THE WINNER, VIRL O. NORTON)

1993 - 1976 cross-country endurance horse race undertaken to break the world record for longest such race (previously held by a 1,200-mile 1928 Portuguese contest) was won by Virg O. Norton on his remaining sound mule, a 7-year-old jack named Lord Fauntleroy ("Leroy.") Norton has inscribed, dated (Sept. 14, 1994) and double signed to the first blank page in red ball-point. Previous owner has hand-written the names of many contestants at their candid photos throughout, probably since most of these photos lack captions. We do NOT believe these hand-written names are autographs of the various participants, as they all appear to be in the same hand. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]

The Contactees Manuscript - Witness ET

UFO Library Limited, Studio City, CA 1993 - Studio City, CA: UFO Library Limited, 1993. First Edition. Quarto, wraps, inexpensively reproduced in comb-binding with mylar cover-protector as issued. 133 numbered pages. Fine, with only micro trace wear and dust. See scans. Extraordinarily scarce first edition of Randazzo's accumulation (12 notable contributors are credited) of the stories of a number of twelve largely well-known (at least within the field) claimed contactees. Those are: George Adamski, Jerry Wells, Sixto Paz Wells, Charles A. Silva, Fred Bell, Hal Wilcox, Donna Butts, Eduard" Billy" Meier, Enrique C. Rincon, Benjamin Creme, Richard Rylka, and Claude Vorilhon ("Rael"). Note: one page of the section on Enrique C. Rincon is out of order (as-bound), but present. Rather startlingly in-depth for a survey volume, thus apparently well-researched. Primarily text, with some black and white photos of the contactees and other graphic elements, including a chart of some of the "Amercor" language (Donna Butts section). A very, very hard find within this UFO sub-field, particularly in Fine condition. See scans. LG6 [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]

Signed facsimile page of the manuscript score of Requiem

      - Colour print. Signed by Ligeti in pencil. 1 page. 360 × 455 mm. With notes on verso in pencil, saying that it was a gift from the composer on June 30, 1993. Ligeti was already interested in the text of the Requiem when he got the commission from the Swedish Radio's Contemporary Music concert series to compose Requiem in 1963. He finished the four parts (Introitus, Kyrie, Dies Irae, Lacrimosa) in 1965. In the same year it was premiered in Stockholm. Won the first prize of the International Society of Contemporary Music and the Berlin Prize for this composition. Parts of the composition appeared in Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey and in Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. György Ligeti (1923-2006) was a Hungarian (Transylvanian) born composer. Studied at the Music Academy of Cluj and Budapest. After his graduation he started to collect folk music in Romania and taught composing and counterpointing at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. He left Hungary after the revolution in 1956, and started to work at the radio station in Cologne where he made acquaintance with Karlheinz Stockhausen who had a major influence on his art. In 1959 settled down in Vienna and became citizen in 1967. Taught at the Universities of Darmstadt, Stockholm, Stanford and Hamburg. Under the influence of Stockhausen he started to compose music for electronic instruments like Artikulation and Atmosphères. This gave him reputation in the Western European music scene. After these works he gave up composing electronic music but his experiences with such instruments made and effect on his later compositions. His music could be characterized as a mixture of Western avant-garde music and Hungarian folk music combined with sense of humour and absurd. Ligeti's pieces (Lontano, Lux Aeterna, Requiem) were used as film music - among others - in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shining and Eyes Wide Shut also in Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island.

HarperCollins Publishers, [1993]. - First edition. Signed by the author. Fine in dust jacket. In her second mystery, Commissario Guido Brunetti confronts a grisly sight when the body of a young American is fished out of a fetid Venetian canal. Though all the signs point to a violent mugging, something incriminating turns up in the victim's apartment that suggests the existence of a high level conspiracy-and Brunetti becomes convinced that somebody is taking great pains to provide a ready-made solution to the crime.         Correspondence between Rolph and Steve Race, comprising 15 Typewritten Letters Signed, ca 19 pages folio, 1 Christimas card, 1987-1994 with 4 retained copies of Race's replies.

      - Beginning with a fan letter for My Music, continuing through a long discussion of the vagaries of conductors, diatribes from both on politics and politicians and an arcane discussion of musical notation. Also included is a Typewritten Letter Signed from John Gardner, 1 page folio, 18 April 1993, illustrating the origin of the musical scale and a signed copy of Rolph's privately-printed book Letters to Two Women. Where Steve Race's replies are missing, he has supplied a short precis of their contents.'. Take the final movement of the Beethoven Fifth. Pom-pom-pom-pom, pom-pom-pom-pom - the batons held by the blokes I'm thinking of (Adrian Boult was one) actually went up at every pom, though the fourth pom got a sort of final flourish. No, I'm wrong - it went up at every first and fourth pom. I think I shall probably never understand. .'Provenance: Sothebys, 17 December 1996 lot 208, sold on behalf of the Royal Society of Literature. [Attributes: Signed Copy]
