Grey cloth, as new, 7 vols. bound in 6, illustrated with 473 b.w. tipped in reprint photos, reprint of the original edition, English text, 21.4 x 31 cm., the complete run. * * FIRST & ONLY COMPLETE REPRINT EDITION * * *** *** THE RARE COMPLETE RUN OF THE FAR EAST: AN ILLUSTRATED FORTNIGHTLY THE LEGENDARY AND COMPREHENSIVE NEWSPAPER OF THE FOREIGN COMMUNITY WITH ARTICLES AND POTOGRAPHS OF JAPAN & CHINA This the now RARE. This is the FIRST & ONLY COMPLETE REPRINT of the original edition, with 473 b.w. tipped-in reproduction photographs, a complete run From May, 1870 through August, 1875. A REMARKABLE PHOTOGRAPH-ILLUSTRATED PERIOD NEWSPAPER: THE FAR EAST was remarkable in that it was illustrated with pasted-in, original photographs, at a time when photomechanical reproduction was still in its infancy. With photos of Japan, Hong Kong, Canton, and others. The newspaper's in-house photographer was the Austrian, Michael Moser, but Black, an amateur photographer himself, supplemented Moser's images with his own. Significant photographers whose work also appeared in the newspaper included Uchida Kuichi, the elder Suzuki Shin'ichi and William Saunders. Black noted some of the early difficulties of publishing THE FAR EAST, the deleterious effects of the local weather on photographs, the inferiority and rarity of proper photographic chemicals and paper, and the poor quality [in his eyes] of the images produced by Japanese photographers. Until 1873, Black was unable or unwilling to pay the going rate for photographs, which must have particularly … [Click Below for Full Description]

Baumol, W. J. [William]; Quandt, R. E. [Richard]
Macmillan Limited, London. FIRST EDITION IN ORIGINAL WRAPS OF A "CLASSIC" PAPER ON THE PROBLEM OF CAPITAL BUDGETING, THE 1965 BAUMOL-QUANDT MODEL. Project selection is a major problem in managerial decision making. Capital budgeting problems determine which project to fund given constraints on available capital. This much studied paper presents the Baumol-Quandt Model [also known as the Baumol and Quandt Problem]; in it Baumol and Quandt apply tools of mathematical programming to the topic of capital budgeting and present their approach for making project selections to maximize value. Note that we separately offer a related paper that came ten years earlier, the Lorie-Savage Problem paper ("Three Problems in Capital Rationing" in The Journal of Business 28, 8, October 1955, pp. 229-240). Lorie and Savage use integer programming (Lagrangian methods in discrete optimization approach) to introduce the topic of capital budgeting and present their approach for making project selections to maximize value along with three examples to illustrate the approach. Baumol and Quandt approach this same task using the tools of mathematical programming. They are also the "first [to] review existing investment selection models" - starting with Fisher, then moving on to Hirshleifer, Lorie and Savage, Baumol (in 1950), Chanres-Cooper-Miller, and the Weingartner Basic Horizon Model (Larson, Capital Budgeting, No. 173, January 1970, 47). Considered a key study and one of the principal capital rationing models, the Baumol-Quandt Model [also known as the Baumol and Quandt Model, points "out the li … [Click Below for Full Description]

Illustrated from drawings and reproductions from photographs. Some toning to pages facing the tipped-in illustrations. Oblong 8vo. Bond, Michael
The First UK Printing published by Collins in 1965. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. A little pushing at the spine ends. Some light fading to the lower spine end and rear edges. Gilt titling and decorations remains very bright. Free from inscriptions. The pages remain very clean with just a little toning to the text block. The WRAPPER is complete and is correctly priced at 16s. net. A little edge-wear with some rubbing and slight loss at the spine ends and corners. A small closed tear to the front cover upper edge. The wrapper is notorious for its fragility. This particular wrapper however, is in lovely condition and appears very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been signed by the author to the title page : ''Best wishes, Michael Bond'. 'The adventures of Paddington' comprises the 'A Bear Called Paddington' and 'More about Paddington' titles. It has drawings and colour plates by Peggy Fortnum. The colour plates appear here for the first time in this edition. A very scarce title to find with such attributes.
