Fleming, Ian:
London: Jonathan Cape. 1965. First edition, first printing, first state binding. First edition, first printing, first state binding. Original black Linson cloth with gilt stamped gun to the upper board and titles in gilt to the spine, in dustwrapper. An excellent near fine copy, the binding clean with a slight lean and the corners sharp, the gilt is brilliant and without the oxidisation often seen. The contents are entirely complete and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. There are two tiny foxing spots to the vertical edge of the text block otherwise the pages are clean throughout. Complete with the lovely fine original dustwrapper. Not price-clipped (18s net to the front flap). A superb example of the scarcest Bond title to obtain first impression. Of the 82,000 copies of the first edition printed only the first 940 copies were issued in this golden gun binding. Nearly the entire 940 copies were shipped to South Africa, Australia and New Zealand in advance of publication, which means the majority of copies suffer heavy foxing, oxidisation of the golden gun and general climate related condition issues. This copy has escaped all of those. [Gilbert A13a (1.1 First impression, first issue, first state.)]. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. Plath, Sylvia
London: Faber and Faber, 1965. First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine/near fine. Octavo size, 86 pp. First edition of this collection of poems written at the end of author Sylvia Plath's (1932-1963) lifetime. Her husband Ted Hughes edited her last poems into the Ariel volume, which catapulted her to fame. Unfortunately, he omitted some of the poems Plath had intended and rearranged the order of those remaining. In her own prepared collection for Ariel, beginning with 'Morning Song' and ending with 'Wintering', the first word of the collection would have been 'love' and the last, 'spring'. Published two years after her death, it was preceded by significant discussion in the press about her suicide, and by serial publication of many poems. Hughes's editing of Plath's poetry and short stories has had an undeniable impact on how her work has been received. The Plath myth-making exploded as soon as if not before Ariel was published; Time and Life magazines reviewed it as 'strange and terrible' in a style as 'brutal as a truncheon', written during her 'last sick slide towards suicide'. Such criticism perpetuated the idea that her death was the most famous thing about her, and encouraged further critics to read the poems as solely charting her increasing mental agitation. But even a casual reading of the poems reveals the many voices of her work - the musing, aspirant, undeafeatable, as well as the wrathful and spiteful - and Plath herself, when talking about her work, was "amusing and charming, her voice controlled, guttural, and powerful," an undeniable truth neither her husband's … [Click Below for Full Description]

DICK, PHILIP K.,
, ca. 1965. The first draft typescript of Dick's story "Faith of Our Fathers," published in 1967 in the collection Dangerous Visions, edited by Harlan Ellison. 39 pages, on onion skin paper, with Dick's holograph corrections throughout. Together with both the manuscript page and the carbon of page 43, representing the final page of Dick's second draft (which was longer than the first draft after emendations). Nearly 100 changes evident in Dick's hand, plus his handwritten insertion of the title after the typing. Dick would change the ending once again prior to publication. This manuscript, and the additional sheets, were given to Ray Nelson by Dick during their collaboration on The Ganymede Takeover in 1966. In 1986, Nelson gave the pages to Dick's widow, Anne Dick. That mailing envelope is included. Several years later, Anne Dick gifted the manuscript to PKD scholar Sam Umland, from whom it came to us. Anne Dick's autograph note signed to Umland is included. All items, except the mailing envelope from Nelson to Anne Dick, are fine. "Faith of Our Fathers" was nominated for the 1968 Hugo Award for Best Novelette. Since his untimely death at age 53 in 1982, Philip K. Dick has gained the reputation he sought throughout his life -- that of a writer who transcended the science fiction genre. His works are seen as social commentary as much as genre fiction, and his struggles with drugs and with altered states of consciousness -- to the point where reality itself was in question -- have been seen as metaphors for the predicament of humanity in the modern era: alienated, deceived b … [Click Below for Full Description]

GRANT, KEITH. ROLAND, HENRY.
Self-published., London 1965 - Keith Grant. A 25 page typewritten journal of tour of Iceland in May 1965. From the collection of his friend and dealer Henry Roland, founder and partner in the noted London gallery Roland, Browse & Delbanco. Inscribed in ink 'To Mr and Mrs Roland a souvenir of both our visits from Keith Sept/68'. Starts with the crossing to Reykjavik, 'Yesterday we sailed close to the new Island of Surtsey. That will remain a unique experience. i did not expect it to tbe so large-so brooding and menacing nor to see so much activity. the sea around the volcano was a chalky, dirty green from which there rose steam of the purest white'.'In this scene was the complete and most beautiful negation of landscape as we in England have come to know it. A beauty incomprehensible witout the taste of the lava dust and the stench of rotting cod and the elixir of the salt-laden air. It's this quality which I would like in the next pictures-a homage to this sterility upon which all save a few of the spores of life have failed. To imagine these lava fields in movement is quite awe inspiring. The sight of this magnitude of power that once was, has more than ever convinced me that unless painting moves towards the expression of questions of life and belief of human reaction and participation as did the great religious pictures-it is dealing in half-thoughts and tiny specialised emotioms.'
