John McPhee
New York: Farrar , Straus and Giroux. Condition: Very Good + / Near Fine. A tight, very sharp copy of the 1965 stated 1st printing. Clean and VG+ (very light spotting at the panels, tiny indentations to the preliminaries) in a crisp, price-intact ("$3.75"), unusually nice example of the pictorial dustjacket, with no fading whatsover along the spine. The orange, which almost invariably fades at least to some degree, in this case is as strong and vibrant as the day the book was published and the dustjacket overall, which shows just a touch of rubbing to the front tips and the slightest bit of creasing at the spine crown, easily merits a Near Fine. 12mo, a very impressive copy of McPhee's seminal first book, in a remarkably bright dustjacket. Trocchi, Alexander (contributor); Feliks Topolski (illustrator);
Feliks Topolski, 1965. First and only edition. Folded broadside, revealing when unfolded a large scale graphic and textual portrayal of a poetry reading that became a watershed moment in 1960s British counterculture. SIGNED by Alexander Trocchi at the inclusion of his essay. The broadside was published as a part of Topolski's prolific ongoing "Chronicle" series. The recto of the broadside includes illustrations after Topolski's drawings of many of the reading's participants, including a very large portrait of Allen Ginsberg, Trocchi, and others, with Trocchi's essay below. The verso includes poems from a number of poets, each reproduced from the respective poet's original holograph. Trocchi's essay is a document of the event, and notes that "Pablo Neruda promised but failed to come. He was tracked down at a more formal reading in Belgrave Square." Trocchi, along with Michael Horovitz and John Hopkis, coordinated the event. 23 x 36 inches (58.5 x 91.5 cm) unfolded. Near Fine. [Attributes: Signed Copy]

Leo Castelli New York, 1965 VERY SCARCE specially printed on heavyweight art card. This poster was briefly made available as a special edition printed on very heavy art paper. It was to coincide with an exhibition at the Leo Castelli Gallery, 4E.77N.Y. It was not the thin paper version that was posted elsewhere. It was especially produced at a high price (for then!) Superb condition, and a classic example of the artist's most iconic work. It has been stored since the 60s in a plans chest so it has not faded. 25"x30" (64cm x 76cm). No Binding. Near Fine.

near fine in very good dj. John le Carré (David Cornwell) (1965) 'The Looking-Glass War', UK first edition, first printing, published by Heinemann. Signed and inscribed by the author: "John le Carré for Elias Kanner, 18 Sept 81, N.Y. [New York]" Provenance: we obtained the books from a reputable auction house in New York along many other signed books. The signature is authentic unlike many 'flat signed' copies on the market where the provenance is guess work at best. Condition: a near fine copy in a very good dust jacket. Hardly any trace of shelf wear. About one milimter of a lean. No previous owner's scribbles, no bumps, no foxing. Dust jacket is not price clipped, but is faded on the spine as the majority of copies are. Fortunately the spine has not gone completely white. Beight, Mary Catherine Grady
Due to this archive's size and weight, additional shipping costs will apply. Please contact us for details.An incredible archive documenting the work of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory between 1965 and 1984, the golden age of unmanned space exploration, compiled by female control room mission specialist Mary Catherine Grady Beight (1917-2012). The heart of the archive are the 148 photographs taken during the Apollo, Mariner, Pioneer, Viking, Voyager, and Galileo missions, some of which were only released in-house, rather than as public relations packets. There are also congratulatory printed letters to staff from JPL directors, staff newsletters, certificates of achievement, and a small number of souvenirs. NASA's Jet propulsion Laboratory was founded in the 1930s as a Caltech student club for amateur rocketry. During the Second World War it was sponsored by the US Army and became a fully-fledged research centre focusing on rocketry. Within three months of Sputnik's launch in October 1957, JPL had built the United States' first satellite, Explorer 1, and in 1958 the organisation was transferred to the control of the new civilian space agency, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, while remaining under the management of Caltech. "The Laboratory began to turn its attention from the rockets themselves to the payloads they would carry. Developing these payloads - scientific spacecraft - would become the new focus and place JPL at the center of the Space Race with the Soviet Union... Thus commenced a long series of "first ever" accomplishments by JPL that helped … [Click Below for Full Description]

[Paint Company Trade Catalogue].
(n. p.): National Lead Company, (n. d.). 1st printing, ca 1965. 56 pp. Pasted-down and tipped in color illustrations. Elephant folio. 21" x 15". Red & black heavy boards with screw post binding. Individualized firm name on cover: General Appliance and Hardware. Light wear to binding, faint foxing at bottom edge of supplement page. A VG example. Item #39017 The Dutch Boy Paint Company, originally founded in 1907 by the National Lead Company, used this album to advertise and promote their line of products in stores where paint products were sold. Beneath every bright and cheerful illustration are specifics on paint shades, tones, color schemes and texture blending, and details on decorating techniques for dream homes. American advertising had mastered the art of selling "lifestyle" by the 1960s and this album depicts suburban living at its finest moment. Illustrations are taken directly from aricles in "Better Homes and Gardens" and "American Home". Many of the pictures are large enough to see fascinating period details of kitchenware, appliances, furniture, art, and decorative objects on sideboards and coffee tables. Most scenes are photographs but many illustrations are artists' renderings. The chatty text discusses ways to glamorize brick, update an old-fashioned white bathroom, use practical colors in areas such as "the lanai", decorate bedroom walls "to please youngsters", and create visually soothing tones in restful rooms. Exterior color is also promoted in artful ways. In many examples jauntily clad people are busy in their lovely homes cooking or arranging flowers, w … [Click Below for Full Description]

Bruxelles: MAGRITTE René. Handwritten letter, signed with his initials Brussels 9 January 1965, 13,5 x 20,5 cm, two pages on one leaf Significant letter written by Rene Magritte to Andre Bosmans, dated 9 January 1965 and signed with his initials. 35 lines in black ink on one leaf with the heading "Rene Magritte 97, rue des Mimosas, Bruxelles 3 Telephone 15.07.30". Several words crossed out and passages underlined. Published in the Lettres à Andre Bosmans 1958-1967, Seghers I. Brachot, 1990, pp. 407-408A letter that is both comical and of great philosophical depth, in which the Surrealist painter Rene Magritte tackles the question of the imagination and inspiration. In it there is a very pertinent analysis of the issues of aesthetics and of modern thinking, while the painter is seeking inspiration to produce the cover of the next XXe siecle, an avant-garde artistic and literary journal (issue XXV, June 1965). Magritte addresses this letter to his great friend Andre Bosmans, a school teacher, poet and editor-in-chief of Rhetorique, a literary journal to which Magritte actively contributed. The painter, then in full mastery of his art, enjoyed international recognition since the beginning of the 1960s. His work has already been the object of numerous retrospectives in France and in Belgium, and will be celebrated on the other side of the Atlantic several months later at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.His letter is divided between humour and psychological reflection. Magritte's usual taste for irony is present: "Here is the extract from the newspaper La Meuse. The serious … [Click Below for Full Description]
