An amazing Schaefer beer display attributed to the 1965 New York Worlds Fair made of wood and composite material measuring approximately 24 1/2 inches diagonally and 22 1/2 inches wide. Attached to homemade base and appears to include original fastener (to wall, etc.). In good condition with wear and minor scrapes as pictured. The 16 ounce can does not appear permanent to the piece. A number "14" is written on the inner side of one of the shoes. Lower arm articulates slightly up and down. The Schaefer Center existed at the 1939 and 1964-1965 New York World's Fairs with the 1964 structure being an almost entirely plastic and fiberglass structure including entertainment, restaurants and bars. A diorama of the original Schaefer brewery of 1842 in the Schaefer Center Rotunda was included in the 1964-1965 Schaefer Center. The diorama depicted gnomes performing typical operations involved in making Schaefer beer at that time. This gnome/elf appears similar to the pictures at nywfdotcom. Shipping via UPS only includes packaging by the UPS store and insurance. SALINGER, J. D.
[Moskva:] Izdatel’stvo TsK VLKSM «Molodaia gvardiia», 1965. 8vo (214 × 135 mm), pp. 253, [3]; with a portrait frontispiece; light marginal browning due to paper stock; original cloth-backed illustrated boards designed by Boris Zhutovsky (b.1932), extremities worn, one corner bumped, old bookseller’s marks to rear pastedown. First edition in book form, comprising translations of Catcher in the Rye, Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters, A Perfect Day for Bananafish, The Laughing Man, De Daumier-Smith’s Blue Period, and Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut. Translated, with an introduction, by Rita Rait-Kovaleva (1898–1988). ‘Of all American writers of the younger generation first published in the USSR in the 1960s, J. D. Salinger may well be the most important and influential. The Catcher in the Rye was the first to appear, though Rita Rajt-Kovaleva’s translation took some liberties with Salinger’s text to avoid scandalizing Soviet prudes’ (Maurice Friedberg, A Decade of Euphoria: Western Litarature in Post-Stalin Russia, 1954–64, p. 199). ‘Rayt is recognized as one of the best translators in Soviet letters The appearance of her translations of J. D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye in the 1960s and four novels by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., in the 1970s proved to be major events in Russian literature. Her translations, clear examples of the artistic method in practice, enjoy a deserved reputation for excellence, and demonstrate the attributes of artistic translation most often cited by critics and theorists ’ (Leighton, Two Worlds, One Art: Literary Translation in Russia and America, p. 97 … [Click Below for Full Description]

Trocchi, Alexander (contributor); Feliks Topolski (illustrator);

SIGNED by Alexander Trocchi at the inclusion of his essay. The broadside was published as a part of Topolski's prolific ongoing "Chronicle" series. The recto of the broadside includes illustrations after Topolski's drawings of many of the reading's participants, including a very large portrait of Allen Ginsberg, Trocchi, and others, with Trocchi's essay below. The verso includes poems from a number of poets, each reproduced from the respective poet's original holograph. Trocchi's essay is a document of the event, and notes that "Pablo Neruda promised but failed to come. He was tracked down at a more formal reading in Belgrave Square." Trocchi, along with Michael Horovitz and John Hopkis, coordinated the event. 23 x 36 inches (58.5 x 91.5 cm) unfolded. Near Fine. [Attributes: Signed Copy]

KESSEL (Joseph)
Paris, Plon, 1965. 1 vol. (217 x 143 mm) de 282 pp., [2] et 1 ff. Broché. Edition originale. A few areas have light, minor soiling or foxing. Once again, the scans and pictures made these areas brighter than they really look. There's a small, mailing address label affixed to the upper, left corner of the inside of the front cover. It contains the name and Berkeley address of the influential, UC Berkeley, Soviet economics professor, Gregory Grossman. The spine is strong and tight. The pages have no writing, highlighting, tears or stains. The top page-edges have spotting. Not ex-library. This is a first edition of Joseph Brodsky's first book. It's original. It's not a reprint. The text is in Russian. Publisher: Inter-Language Literary Associates. Publication Date: 1965. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]

Light creasing otherwise in excellent condition. Fine group of ephemera with an excellent provenance, commemorating Enoch Powell's attendance at Churchill's state funeral at Saint Paul's Cathedral on 30 January 1965. Powell (1912-1998) was one of the foremost figures in British post-war politics, Conservative MP for Wolverhampton South-West (1950-74), Ulster Unionist MP for Down South (1974-87), Financial Secretary to the Treasury (1957-58) and Minister for Health (1960-63) under Macmillan, Secretary of State for Defence in the Heath government (1965-68). However, his infamous "Rivers of Blood" speech on immigration, delivered at Birmingham in 1968, "thereafter defined his place in British political culture" (Simon Heffer in ODNB). At a speech to The Churchill Society on 22 October 1988 Powell concluded by saying: "This Society has given itself the task of maintaining, commemorating and enlarging the life and work of Winston Churchill. That is not a task which can be performed from one angle or one point of view. It is three dimensional and you must … [Click Below for Full Description]

William Blake
London: Printed at the Trianon Press for the Trustees of the William, 1965. Condition: Fine. Number 301 of 380, quarto size, unpaginated [8 plates and 5 pp. of commentary]. "The Book of Thel" is an unrhymed verse poem, and the first of the symbolic Illuminated Books to be completed after work had finished on the "Songs of Innocence" and before the etching of most of the "Songs of Experience", and was one of Blake's more popular works during his lifetime. lt is similar to "Songs of Innocence" in its dealings with the uncorrupted human soul, personified in Thel who encounters the spiritual forms of experience in Lily-of-the-Valley, the Cloud, the Worm and the Clod of Clay, all of which she eventually rejects to return to the spiritual world. William Blake (1757 - 1827) is arguably the most original and highly-regarded English author - unusual in that he excelled both as an author and an artist. Although thought mad by his contemporaries, he was held in high regard for his expressiveness and for the synthesis of philosophical and mystical senses within his work. Blake's work has been spectacularly reproduced through the pochoir technique by Arnold Fawkus and his Trianon Press, which has an undeniable claim to being the finest press of its kind in the last century and has long been known for their unrivaled artworks in fine colour printing. DESCRIPTION: Original reddish-tan quarter morocco with hand-marbled paper sides, top-edge gilt, backstrip lettered in gilt, 8 colour plates reproduced by the collotype and pochoir processes, printed on Arches pure rag paper made to match the … [Click Below for Full Description]

Charles Bukowski
New Orleans: Loujon Press Lyle Stuart, Inc, 1965. Condition: Fine / Signed. One of the scarcest of all Charles Bukowski limitations, #7 OF THE FIRST 10 ORIGINAL COPIES ISSUED BY LOUJON PRESS -- ALL 10 WITH A LETTER BY BUKOWSKI PASTED-IN BETWEEN THE SIGNATURE LEAF AND THE LIMITATION LEAF. AT THE TOP OF THE LIMITATION PAGE, JON WEBB (THE PRINTER, DESIGNER AND INSPIRATION BEHIND THIS REMARKABLE BOOK) HAS WRITTEN IN HIS HAND (IN RED PENCIL): "# Seven --of 10 copies with letter-- with white cover-- Jon Webb". The incredible 2 pg. letter, dated 1964 and very personal and detailed, clearly was written by Bukowski to Jon and Gypsy Lou Webb in anticipaption of this book. The letter is something of a fore-runner to his Black Sparrow "painted" books, showing large, angry strokes of paint (and/or magic marker) and it expresses, among other things, his worry that he won't have enough quality poems to do justice to as ambitious and attractive a book as "Crucifix in a Deathhand". (Presumably, Jon and Gypsy Lou made up their limitation of 10 copies with letters from Bukowski discussing "Crucifix in a Deathhand" while the idea was still in its infancy). And apart from the rarity of this limitation, this is a gorgeous, Near Fine to Fine copy, genuinely bordering on pristine. Tall quarto, internally immaculate, all the hues from the bright, multi-colored pages are vivid and completely unfaded. A major highspot in Bukowski collectibles and certainly one of the rarest obtainable copies of the first serious attempt to make an artistic, physically beautiful book out of a collection of Charles Buk … [Click Below for Full Description]
