Nan Fairbrother. First American Edition. 1965
The House in the Country by Nan Fairbrother. Hardcover with dust jacket. First American edition, published in 1965 by Alfred A. Knopf Publisher. 237 pages. This copy is in very good/near fine condition. The dust jacket has been wrapped in a plastic covering (without tape) for years so it has helped the dust jacket to stay in very nice shape. Slight edge wear at the four corners of dust jacket. The top of the dust jacket spine has some minor creasing. The bottom edge some minor wear. The front inside panel of the dust jacket is price clipped and there is some hand writing in pencil and a sticker on the first page. There is minor wear at the top and bottom of the hardcover spine. The four corners of the hardcover panels are in excellent condition. The spine is strong. The interior pages are off-white and very clean, no writing, folds, tears or dog eared pages. Please view photos. I package items very carefully, including wrapping books in plastic bags to protect from rain or snow. I tend to ship items within 24 hours of receiving payment. I'm also happy to combine shipping.

Charles Bukowski
Bukowski, Charles. CONFESSIONS OF A MAN INSANE ENOUGH TO LIVE WITH BEASTS - INSCRIBED TO HAROLD NORSE. Bensenville, IL: Mimeo Press, 1965. First Edition. First Printing, limited to no more than 500 copies. Slim octavo (21.5cm); variously-colored mimeographed sheets, stapled into pink and black illustrated card wrappers; [52pp]. Poet Harold Norse's copy, with his signature at upper margin of title page, and inscribed to him by Bukowski on verso of front wrapper: "For Hal Norse - The Horse Immortal - Charles Bukowski / 11-14-69." Betwen his inscription and his signature, Bukowski has added a drawing of a large horse. Gentle sunning along spine-fold, else very Near Fine. This "long short story" marks an important debut, as it introduced readers to Bukowski's alter-ego and recurring character Henry Chinaski. A distinguished copy, marking Bukowski's lifelong, contentious relationship with author, collaborator, and Beat Generation personality Harold Norse. His work would appear together with Bukowski's on numerous occasions, chief among them the 1969 publication Penguin Modern Poets 13 - a high-profile appearance which gave Bukowski broader exposure both in Europe and in the U.S. Krumhansl 17; Dorbin A8. Angus MacLise
NY: Filmmaker's Cinematheque. Condition: Very Good. Original 18 x 8 inch placard printed in thick blue ink on blue stock. Two old creases from folding, some minor wear and a couple of small tears, else very good. A beautiful and uncommon piece of avant garde cinema history. Original placard for the multi day, multi media presentation of MacLise's Rites of the Dreamweapon staged during the first week of Jonas Mekas' New Cinema Festival [Expanded Cinema Festival]. In November and December of 1965 Mekas presented an extensive series of multimedia productions including artists such as Angus MacLise, Jack Smith, and Nam June Paik among others. It's possible, but not confirmed that The Velvet Underground took part in the events. [ White Light/ White Heat: the Velvet Underground Day by Day page 58] The program for the first week consisted of the following: 'Rites of the Dreamweapon II' [MacLise]; 'The Stagger Mass' [Jerry Joffen]; 'The Mysteries of the Essence Chamber' [MacLise]; Epiphany of Light [Don Snyder]; 'Rehearsal For the Destruction of Atlantis' [Jack Smith]; 'Rites of the Nadir' [John Vacarro]. Though not noted here, on the evening of November tenth saw the screening of Piero Heliczer's 'The Last Rites'.

Snyder, Don (director); John Cale, Angus MacLise, Ralph Metzner,
1965. An archive of two original posters for Don Snyder's multi-media presentation, "Spectro-Mach 1," along with extensive manuscript notations, diagrams, and charts. Instructions include visual and aural cues for projectionists and musicians, detailed instructions for presentation sequence (numbered 1 to 13 across the versos of the two posters), random project development notations, and a handwritten note with event information. "Spectro-Mach 1" was a largely undocumented collaborative multimedia performance developed by Don Snyder, featuring poet and musician Angus MacLise, Ralph Metzner, co-author of "The Psychedelic Experience," and John Cale. Inspired by the psychedelic environments of Gerd Stern and Michael Callahan's "USCO," Snyder incorporated minimalist music, similar to MacLise and Cale's work with Theatre of Eternal Music, with hypnotic visuals and repetitive actions. This work proved influential on Andy Warhol's "Up-Tight," which premiered at the Filmmakers' Cinematheque two months later. Snyder was a prolific and highly influential photographer. His most famous collection of photographs, "Aquarian Odyssey" (Liveright, 1979), chronicles utopian communities in New York, New England, and San Francisco in the 1960s and the personalities that fueled them, but it narrowly represents his career, which was furiously active and varied since his start in the late 50s. He was also regarded as a master printer, and struck photographs for Eugene Smith, Diane Arbus, and Gerard Malanga. Posters 9 x 14.5 inches, letterpress, folded. Typescripts 8.5 x 11 inches, folded. An amazing Schaefer beer display attributed to the 1965 New York Worlds Fair made of wood and composite material measuring approximately 24 1/2 inches diagonally and 22 1/2 inches wide. Attached to homemade base and appears to include original fastener (to wall, etc.). In good condition with wear and minor scrapes as pictured. The 16 ounce can does not appear permanent to the piece. A number "14" is written on the inner side of one of the shoes. Lower arm articulates slightly up and down. The Schaefer Center existed at the 1939 and 1964-1965 New York World's Fairs with the 1964 structure being an almost entirely plastic and fiberglass structure including entertainment, restaurants and bars. A diorama of the original Schaefer brewery of 1842 in the Schaefer Center Rotunda was included in the 1964-1965 Schaefer Center. The diorama depicted gnomes performing typical operations involved in making Schaefer beer at that time. This gnome/elf appears similar to the pictures at nywfdotcom.
