USE ZOOM ON EVERY PICTURE, THE PICTURE IS THE DESCRIPTION AND YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU SEE. I AM UNSURE ABOUT THE FULL STORY ON THE C.I.A. INVOLVEMENT IN THIS BOOK AND CHAN THOMAS. THIS BOOK IS NOT SO MUCH ABOUT RELIGION AND MORE ABOUT SPECULATION ON HISTORY (WITH EVIDENCE) AND THE FUTURE. I HAVE HAD THIS BOOK FOR A LONG TIME NOW AND HAVE READ IT MANY TIMES OVER IN THE PAST. THERE IS LITTLE OR NO INFO IN THIS BOOK THAT CAN NOT BE HAD BY ANYONE WHO HAS THE TIME AND DESIRE TO SPEND THE EFFORT TO LOOK. CHAN THOMAS WAS WAY AHEAD OF HIS TIME AND HIS WORK IS CONFORMATION OF WHAT THE MOST BRILLIANT MINDS WHO LEAD THIS FRONT TODAY ARE SAYING, OR VICE VERSA. I HAVE REMOVED MY FREE RETURNS ON THIS ITEM DUE TO THE RISK A DISHONEST PERSON TAKING ADVANTAGE OF ME BY MAKING COPIES OF MY RARE BOOK AND THEN SENDING IT BACK, SO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE BUYING. Capote, Truman
New York: Random House, 1965. First edition of Capote's landmark non-fiction novel. Octavo, original cloth. Signed by Truman Capote on a tipped in page. Fine in a near fine dust jacket with some light rubbing to the extremities. Jacket design by S. Neil Fujita. "Until one morning in mid-November of 1959, few Americans--in fact, few Kansans--had ever heard of Holcomb. Like the waters of the river, like the motorists on the highway, and like the yellow trains streaking down the Santa Fe tracks, drama, in the shape of exceptional happenings, had never stopped there." If all Truman Capote did was invent a new genre--journalism written with the language and structure of literature--this "nonfiction novel" about the brutal slaying of the Clutter family by two would-be robbers would be remembered as a trail-blazing experiment that has influenced countless writers. But Capote achieved more than that. He wrote a true masterpiece of creative nonfiction. In Cold Blood established Capote as the "herald of a new genre, ‘the non-fiction novel,' which recognizes the convergence of fiction and fact in times of outrage, the insane surrealism of daily life" (Hart, 122; Allen, 247). "The best documentary account of an American crime ever written. . . . The book chills the blood and exercises the intelligence . . . harrowing" (The New York Review of Books).

This is a signed copy of Cold Dogs in the Courtyard. This was Bukowski's 10th book, but it was published years before Black Sparrow Press came along. This book of poems was published in 1965 by Literary Times / Cyfoeth Publications, Chicago. Only 500 copies were ever printed and no signed copies were available from the publisher. This copy appears to have been signed many years later by Bukowski. This rare chapbook brings together 13 poems that first appeared in separate issues of 11 small press journals. This is the only book in which Bukowski chose his own poems. Although they eventually were published in magazines prior to the book, in his intro Bukowski claims the poems were all rejected prior to being published - hence the name, "Cold Dogs in the Courtyard." He actually goes on to list the editors who rejected them - all publishers of his previous books. These early poems include: • What Seems To Be The Trouble, Gentlemen? - pg. 5 - circa 1962 • Imbecile Night - pg. 6 - circa 1962 • To A Lady Who Believes Me Dead - pg. 8 - circa 1962 • Thank God For Alleys - pg. 9 • Experience - pg. 10 - circa 1963 • The Death Of A Roach - pg. 12 - circa 1959 • It's Nothing To Laugh About - pg. 14 - circa 1960 • Suicide - pg. 16 - circa 1961 • Face While Shaving - pg. 17 - circa 1961 • Existence - pg. 18 - circa 1963 • I Have Lived In England - pg. 20 - circa 1961 • 2 Outside, As Bones Break In My Kitchen - pg. 21 - circa 1962 • Layover - pg. 22 - circa 1956 I'll grade this copy as near fine, although it's much closer to fine. There is a small light red stain under Bukowski's photo on … [Click Below for Full Description]

V.S. Naipaul
Macmillan, 1965. First American Edition of the author's first book in his Indian Trilogy which includes: "An Area of Darkness", "India: A Wounded Civilization", "India: A Million Mutinies Now." Octavo, original boards. Signed by V.S. Naipaul on the title page. Book Condition: Very Good with spine lean. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine in archival protective cover. Trinidadian essayist and novelist V.S. Naipaul has won both the 1971 Booker Prize and the 2001 Nobel Prize in Literature. An Area of Darkness is a travelogue detailing Naipaul's trip through India in the early sixties. "The world Naipaul sees is of course no void at all: it is a world dense with physical and social phenomena, brutally alive with the complications and contradictions of actual human endeavour. This world of Naipaul's is in fact charged with what can only be described as a romantic view of reality, an almost unbearable tension between the idea and the physical fact." (The New York Review of Books). Loosely laid in is the flier from the author reading where the book was signed and a book review of An Area of Darkness from Newsweek in 1965. Trocchi, Alexander (contributor); Feliks Topolski (illustrator);
Feliks Topolski, 1965. First and only edition. Folded broadside, revealing when unfolded a large scale graphic and textual portrayal of a poetry reading that became a watershed moment in 1960s British counterculture. SIGNED by Alexander Trocchi at the inclusion of his essay. The broadside was published as a part of Topolski's prolific ongoing "Chronicle" series. The recto of the broadside includes illustrations after Topolski's drawings of many of the reading's participants, including a very large portrait of Allen Ginsberg, Trocchi, and others, with Trocchi's essay below. The verso includes poems from a number of poets, each reproduced from the respective poet's original holograph. Trocchi's essay is a document of the event, and notes that "Pablo Neruda promised but failed to come. He was tracked down at a more formal reading in Belgrave Square." Trocchi, along with Michael Horovitz and John Hopkis, coordinated the event. 23 x 36 inches (58.5 x 91.5 cm) unfolded. Near Fine. [Attributes: Signed Copy]

Bailey, Peter
San Francisco Mime Troupe / Bill Graham Presents, San Francisco, 1965. 11 by 17-inch poster used as a playbill. Written by Michel de Ghelderode; translated by George Hauger; directed by R. G. Davis. During intermission Lawrence Ferlinghetti and David Meltzer read poetry on alternate nights. The play ran at the Commedia Repertory Theatre on October 14-23, 1965. The play, a satirical look at organized religion, was one of the first events produced by Bill Graham, who began working with the San Francisco Mime Troupe (SFMT) in early 1965. While in the form of a poster, the SFMT's website refers to this a playbill. As a poster, this is singularly ineffective, as it does not obviously include the date or location of the performance other than a cryptic note in small type at the bottom of the page. Folded twice, with some darkening to the back (verso). [JSP04] [Attributes: In Dust Jacket]
