WARHOL, Andy
Philadelphia: Institute of Contemporary Art, 1965. First Edition. The folded poster invitation to Andy Warhol's first museum show at the Philadelphia Institute of Contemporary Art, October 8 - November 21, 1965. Offset printed in a reported edition of 6000 copies, a ridiculous number given the gallery could hold only 300 people. Yet Sam Green, who organized the show and had recently been appointed director of the ICA, was keenly aware of Warhol's growing celebrity and was himself cashing in on an act of self-promotion. When it was clear the opening crowd would be closer to the number of invitations printed rather than the capacity of the gallery, Green pulled all the pieces of the wall and turned Warhol and his entourage into an impromptu exercise in performance art. Folded as designed; a fine copy.

Publisher's notation on copyright page: 20650, followed by 1234567890 MP 7210698765 - no additional printings listed. First edition. / "Feynman's book with Albert R. Hibbs (34) used path integrals to treat problems other than quantum mechanics and quantum electrodynamics, including statistical mechanics, the variational principle, the polaron problem, Brownian motion, and noise. Other applications have been made to quantum liquids and solids, to macromolecules and polymers, and to problems of propagation in dissipative media. Feynman's approach is important to various forms of semiclassical approximations in chemical, atomic, and nuclear problems and is fundamental to the instanton problem (barrier penetration between different vacuum ground states). It can be extended to optics and even to the motion of particles in the strong gravitational fields near a black hole" [Mehra, p. 107]. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]

Heath, Dave
New York: Comunity Press, 1965. First edition of the photographer's seminal work, one of the great photobooks of the second half of the twentieth century. Tall quarto, original gray cloth. Signed by the photographer. Light wear, else fine in a near fine dust jacket with very light wear. A Dialogue with Solitude is an assemblage of photographs into poetic sequence, entailing a mere hundred pages. Dave Heath had envisioned it in a larger format, and its meager size was not his original intent. Regardless, it was an instant hit, and collectors have sought it out for over four decades. "A Dialogue With Solitude is a period piece that resonates" (Village Voice). "A book that has achieved cult status," Heath's photobook is particularly noted for its attempt "to photograph internal emotions… [by investigating] the essential solitude of an individual through a series of sequences" (Parr & Badger II:104).

Royal Navy) BOND, James, Commander BOND, James, Commander FLEMING, Ian CORGI
Corgi , 1965. (Royal Navy) BOND, James, Commander. Corgi Aston Martin DB5 . This is the Corgi 261, the 1965 first issue of many of the famous Goldfinger motorcar, driven by the Royal Navy's most famous 20th-century officer. Gold-coloured die-cast model in its original box. In 1965, I (JWD) received one for Christmas from my parents. However, a few years later I was foolish enough to swap it for a mouldering deer's foot. They are now rather scarce, especially in boxes. There is a slim local connection to all of this as the Halifax-born actor, Austin Willis, played Simmons, the beach-side cardplayer who, near the film's beginning, is being cheated by Goldfinger and his binoculated lovely, Jill Masterson. It seem that Willis was originally to have had the larger role of Felix Leiter, the CIA agent. With working roof-flap and ejector seat (and bad guy ("bandit") ordnance), rear bullet screen, retractable machine guns. With outer box (edge-wear, one flap taped on, some partial tears to creases) and inner display box (with original secret instructions [lacking mail-in portion] and a very worn instructions envelope). Lacks iron-on 007 ID. Scarce. 450.00

Gogmagog Press, London, 1965. Four small octavo volumes, each (26)pp. One of 100 copies printed on Hosho paper, signed by the artist/printer Morris Cox. Each volume contains a colorful panorama of nature printed from heavily textured blocks, which give the offset prints an embossed effect. The changing seasons appear in a flowing image with delicate natural forms and subtle hues. Colin Franklin says that the group is "reckoned as the peak of his achievement as a printer." The texture of the prints derives from the unusual printing blocks used to create them. Cox mounted sheets of cardboard onto plywood and layered them with gesso, next adding materials from nature like seeds, leaves, and twigs. These natural elements were then varnished for strength. Printing these unconventional blocks required an inventive approach. According to David Chambers, "These were printed by using the office copying press and then screwing this down several times as the blocks were drawn through on a long carriage." Slight spine slant on Autumn, light, uniform toning, else a fine set in monotype-printed pictorial boards and original acetate wrappers. Considered to be the magnum opus of the Press. (Chambers 14-17, 20, 136). [Attributes: Signed Copy; Soft Cover]
