Graves, Robert
Deya, Mallorca, Spain, 1965. Four pages, in ink, on four leaves of airmail flimsy letterhead. 1 vols. Folded for mailing, otherwise about fine. Half morocco slipcase. Four pages, in ink, on four leaves of airmail flimsy letterhead. 1 vols. Marked "Confidential," to "Dear Mr. [Edwin] Sy," then special collections curator at Lockwood Memorial Library: "Enclosed a number of photographs. The 'Robert Graves Day' rather embarrasses me because I have always tried to remain a private character, but, having a large family to support, I have been forced to make public appearances in U.S. & England. And the recent deaths of the four best known poets writing in English - Frost, Cummings, Eliot [,] Edith Sitwell -- has as it were sucked me upwards by the vacuum they created." He continues further in detail about his need to raise funds by way of another sale of his manuscripts, and his feelings of obligation to Lockwood. He has assembled "a collection of prose manuscripts to be sold by my friend Lawrence Wallrich ... Various buyers, from the coasts mainly, would have paid the money if the collection had included verse. But all the verse (which is the most important of course) has always gone to you ... Now since April 23 1964 I have written the nearest to poetry that I can claim to have come; and nothing else but an occasional article or lecture. The wad of poem drafts is about three inches thick. Wallrich suggests that I 'sweeten' the prose collection by including these; but I tell him that I should satisfy my moral debt by asking your permission ... What I should most like of course w … [Click Below for Full Description]

Capote, Truman
New York: Random House, 1965 First edition, limited issue of 500 numbered copies. Signed by Capote on the limitation page. Publisher's black cloth, lettered in gilt; in the publisher's acetate dust jacket; housed in the publisher's red-orange slipcase. Book fine; dust jacket with a closed tear to spine head, minor chip to the spine tail. Overall, a near fine and attractive copy, signed by Capote. In Cold Blood is a fact-based account of the 1959 murders of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas, and is one of Capote's most popular books. When police found the bodies of the Clutter parents and their two children, there was little to no evidence to suggest a motive or the perpetrators. After reading a brief article about the quadruple murder, Capote became fascinated with the mystery and traveled to Holcomb with his friend Harper Lee to investigate further. He conducted much research, which he used to write a narrative and realistic account for In Cold Blood. Although Capote insisted on the veracity of his book's factualness, subsequent research has shown that, while essentially a truthful account, In Cold Blood presents exaggerated characters and events in addition to at least one completely fabricated interaction. Regardless, the intriguing murder mystery and Capote's captivating writing make In Cold Blood a literary classic and a forerunner in the True Crime genre.. Signed by Author. 1st Edition. Hard Cover. Fine.

FLEMING, Ian
London: Jonathan Cape. 1965,, 1965. FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, being one of the rarest regular James Bond titles. The FIRST ISSUE has a 'Gun' gilt-stamped to the upper. 8vo., pp221. Publisher's cloth-effect paper over boards, in pictorial jacket. A very good copy with some dustiness and edgewear, plus a slight lean to the spine. The gilt on the gun is particularly bright (often found spotted or tarnished). A very good copy (slight lean) in similar jacket. Housed in a collector's leather box. The rare 'Gun' cover, which was dropped due to financial reasons after a small number of copies were produced and exported to the Colonies. Spurious copies are known, but first issues can be easily identified as, upon comparison, the initial cloth used has an entirely different pattern to the more common (plain) binding. A legendary James Bond high-spot. Gilbert A13a (1.1).

(n.p.): (Pithekos Press/Bowdoin College). (1965). Unbound, folded and gathered sheets for a fine press limited edition with unattributed text on the "Historical Perspective," "The Indian Portrait," and "The Economic Aspect." With nine full-page unattributed woodcut portrait illustrations, most retaining their tissue guards. According to the colophon, 50 copies were produced, or were to be produced, in May of 1965 and this was the third work of this now-elusive press. 22 leaves. 10-1/2" x 13". Oddly, although not obviously misbound, two of the text pages repeat; else fine. The leaves were laid into a plain brown folder, which is present, but split at the fold and losing its edges. An attractive production, very possibly the prototype for a student fine press edition that was never completed. We can find no record of this title in OCLC nor in the specific catalog of Bowdoin College; nor can we find any listing for any other volume issued by this press. That being said, it is an attractive production: the woodcuts were apparently done by different artists and some are quite striking; the text, which is highly critical of U.S. historical treatment of Native Americans, is an early example of the kind of social criticism that the 1960s became famous for: the Free Speech Movement in Berkeley was taking place in the same academic year this was produced, and it wasn't for another two or three years that widespread criticism of the Vietnam War spilled over into widespread critical reevaluation of the national myths and official histories of the United States. Jünger, Ernst :
. Autograph. Detaillierte Einzel-Photos gern per eMail.- Mühleisen 0136: Neunte Sardinien-Reise. T.B. Feynman, Richard
American Physical Society, Lancaster, 1965. FIRST EDITION of Feynman's literal "reformation of quantum mechanics itself;" claiming "that he could not understand standard quantum theory and had to recreate it on his own, Feynman's famous diagrams, introduced and developed here for the first time, "elegantly rewrite quantum theory" (American National Biography; Peacock, The Quantum Revolution, 102). This volume includes a plethora of other works of significance: Richard Feynman's "Theory of Positrons", "On the Origin of Elements " by Maria Mayer and Edward Teller; Giulio Racah "Theory of Complex Spectra" and work by Shockley, Bratten, Bardeen, Pearson, Shul, Schwinger, Zener and so many others. Of the three pivotal formulations of quantum mechanics, Feynman's was the third, following Heisenberg's matrix formulation and Schrodinger's wave equation formulation; Feynman's is the third formulation. Feynman's path integral formulation was "another way of thinking about QED that is probably as visualizable as any theory of quantum fields is ever going to be, and relatively easy to calculate with. The key idea was to represent every possible particle interaction with a space-time diagram. Photon wordlines (their trajectories through spacetime) are represented by wavy lines, while particles such as electrons and positrons are straight lines or curves" (Peacock, The Quantum Revolution, 102). "The dramatic discovery that Feynman made is that the space-time description of a positron moving forward in time is EXACTLY equivalent to the same mathematical description of an electron moving b … [Click Below for Full Description]
