Bulgakov, Mikhail
Novyy Mir, Moscow, 1965. First appearance in print of this novel, otherwise known as A Dead Man's Memoir or Black Snow, a satirical work based on Bulgakov's own experiences with the Moscow Arts Theatre in the 1920s, under the autocratic rule of Stanislavsky. Bulgakov wrote the novel between 1936 and 1939, and it was unfinished when he died in 1940. Uncommon: on account of the Bulgakov's text, this issue was withdrawn soon after publication. 8vo, 288pp.; very pale waterstaining in second half of the volume, still a very good copy in the original light blue wrappers printed with dark blue lettering, some minor fading to edges, light marginal stain to upper wrapper. Provenance: Eden Martin, American collector. [Attributes: Soft Cover]

Frank Herbert
fine in near fine dj. Frank Herbert (1965) 'Dune', US first edition, first printing, published by Chilton Company. This is a rare review copy (no physical difference to the true first edition) which was sent ahead of publication (1 October 1965) to selected booksellers. The original review slip is loosely laid in. The book is unread and in breathtaking condition. Housed in a clamshell case with Dune design protecting the book perfectly. Condition details: A fine copy in a near fine dust jacket for the harshest of judges with a bear minimum of shelf wear. There are no prevoius owners' names, no inscriptions, no bookplates, not stamps etc. Internally clean and spotless. The boards are tight and clean, with no bumps, no lean. Very slight discoluration to the boards' edges. The page block edges are white and NOT foxed. The dust jacket is original and UNRESTORED. It is the correct first issue wrapper with the USD 5.95 price and four lines of publisher information on the bottom rear flap. There is a little of edge wear (a little rubbing), but no tears. Perhaps a slight fade on the spine of the jacket hard to capture on camera. The dust jacket is so thin and fragile as dust jackets in the 1960s were so that very few specimen will be found in better condition than our example. The publication history of 'Dune' has become legendary. After researching sand dunes in Oregon Herbert got the idea to write the story. The novel was serialised in ANALOG magazine from Decmber 1963 onwards as 'Dune World' and 'Prophet of Dune'. After 23 rejections by established publishers, Chilton Company, a … [Click Below for Full Description]

V.S. Naipaul
Macmillan, 1965. First American Edition of the author's first book in his Indian Trilogy which includes: "An Area of Darkness", "India: A Wounded Civilization", "India: A Million Mutinies Now." Octavo, original boards. Signed by V.S. Naipaul on the title page. Book Condition: Very Good with spine lean. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine in archival protective cover. Trinidadian essayist and novelist V.S. Naipaul has won both the 1971 Booker Prize and the 2001 Nobel Prize in Literature. An Area of Darkness is a travelogue detailing Naipaul's trip through India in the early sixties. "The world Naipaul sees is of course no void at all: it is a world dense with physical and social phenomena, brutally alive with the complications and contradictions of actual human endeavour. This world of Naipaul's is in fact charged with what can only be described as a romantic view of reality, an almost unbearable tension between the idea and the physical fact." (The New York Review of Books). Loosely laid in is the flier from the author reading where the book was signed and a book review of An Area of Darkness from Newsweek in 1965. Vizinczey, Stephen
Contemporary Canada Press, 1965. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Signed by Author. Vizinczey, Stephen. IN PRAISE OF OLDER WOMEN. Toronto: Contemporary Canada Press, 1965. 8vo., 244pp. First Edition. A fine copy in dustwrapper showing minimal use. Neatly inscribed on the front free end paper to the pioneering bookseller, owner of Classic Books: "To Louis Melzack / hoping he'll like it and helps/ to make it the biggest bestseller/ in our history./ with respect, thanks and affection, / Stephen V." Anger, Kenneth (Hollywood Babylon 1965)
APS - Associated Professional Services, Inc. - A.P.S., Phoenix, AZ, 1965. Book appears moderately to well read with a slight cock to the spine and some wear and chipping at edges. Spine is a tad sunfaded and the red has become pink with title still bold but author name has all but disappeared. Pages are a touch toned due to age and cheap paper stock. Still a tight, solid copy of this scarcest edition of the Kenneth Anger classic that sort of started the no-holds barred history of Hollywood scandal! According to lore this edition was banned within 10 days of it's publication. Who knows after 50+ years how true that is, except that this is a scarcer edition than the original one published in France in the late 1950's. 272 pages with many photos peppered throughout! Book # APS-9500. This book may require extra fees for shipping, insurance, etc. due to it's scarcity and where it is to be dispatched. Potential buyers may wish to inquire before purchase. Frank Herbert
fine in very good dust jacket. Frank Herbert (1965) 'Dune', US first edition, firt printing, published by Chilton Company. Signed by author Frank Herbert without personalisation on the title page. Condition: a near fine book in a very good first state dust jacket. There are no previous owner's scribbles inside the book, no bookplates, no stamps of any sorts. The lettering on the spine is vibrant and not rubbed out. The original blue cloth boards are vibrant in colour and clean throughout. Very minimal shelf wear, but the book is probably unread as it feels taut. No foxing. The dust jacket is the correct first state specimen with the correct USD 5.95 price and the four line Chilton address on the bottom of the rear flap as called for. Not colour faded on the spine. Slight edge wear as shown including small chipping to edges. Not restored. A beautiful copy. The publication history of 'Dune' has become legend. After researching sand dunes in Oregon Herbert conceived the idea to write the story. The novel was serialised in ANALOG magazine from Decmber 1963 onwards as 'Dune World' and 'Prophet of Dune'. After 23 rejections by established publishers, Chilton Company, a car repair manual printing company, published the novel in October 1965. The print run was very low and about half of the initial run had to be discarded. Very few copies have survived in decent condition. 'Dune' remains the best science fiction novel of all time. It won the 1966 Hugo and Nebula Award. It has been described as the science fiction equivalent to Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Rings' in fantasy in the boo … [Click Below for Full Description]

1965. James Bond Complete Collection Unfortunately, the time has come to sell some of my most beloved possessions, my complete collection of early Bond novels. 'M' aka (my wife) has issued a request to offer these gems to other intelligence agencies such as the FBI, CIA, and eBay. A new special agent is on the way (baby 007), and we require funds to train him and supply with plenty of gadgets. Here is a list of the collection on offer, all hardback books written by the great Ian Fleming and published by Johnathan Cape : 'The Man With The Golden Gun' - (Second Impression 1965) 'You Only Live Twice' - (Second Impression 1964) 'O.H.M.S.S.' - (Third Impression 1963) 'The Spy Who Loved Me' - (Third Impression 1963) 'Octopussy' - (First Edition 1966) 'Thunderball' - (First Edition 1961) 'For Your Eyes Only' - (Fourth Edition 1964) 'Goldfinger' - (Fifth Impression 1963) 'Live And Let Die' - (Reprint 1963) 'Casino Royale' - (Reprint 1959) 'MoonRaker' - (Reprint 1959) 'Diamonds Are Forever' - (Reprint 1959) A couple of the books show signs of wear and tear, which is understandable given their age. There are also some faint pencil marks on the inside cover, but overall in good condition, and would look spectacular on anyone's bookshelf. Could look great in a cafe/restaurant business too as a unique showpiece. Will be sad to see them go. Free postage - Dispatched with Royal Mail 1st Class and tracker.
