Chomsky, Noam
Cambridge: MIT Press, 1965. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. Association copy. First edition, first printing in supplied first issue dust jacket, unclipped with small tear in top of front panel, slightly edge-worn and spine-sunned, Very Good overall. x, 251 pp. Original navy cloth with gilt spine lettering. A few small stains in text. Pioneering Dutch linguist P.A. Verburg's copy with his stamp on front endpaper; his marginal notes, underlines, and small diagrams are throughout text in pen and pencil. Verburg (1905-1989) examined the history of linguistics in 1952 with his Taal En Functionaliteit, translated most recently in English in 1998 as Language and Its Functions. Chomsky's work along similar lines with Aspects and the following year's Cartesian Linguistics would garner much more attention worldwide, influencing the fields of linguistics and philosophy for decades. Verburg's marginal impressions in this copy should provide insight of an important, if oft-neglected predecessor's impressions of Chomsky's breakthrough work.

TEXACO Oil Corporation
Chicago: Rand McNally & Co, 1965. Lithograph printed in 1965, mounted on linen. Image measures 31 x 43.5". This set of maps dates to the glory days of the airline industry, when high prices made the experience an exciting luxury. Pink and blue in hues common to mid-1960s design shape the maps, while lines in a rainbow of colors describe the possible airplane paths. Below an ad presenting the logo of Texaco, the map's sponsor, describes it as a "symbol of quality, dependability and leadership in aviation fuels and lubricant." Just right of center is a guide to the map with a key for all of the airlines. The poster in mounted on linen and in very good condition. No margins as issued.

MARGOT FONTEYN & RUDOLF NUREYEV
New York, 1965. unbound. 8 pages, 11 x 6 inches, New York, Metropolitan Opera House, Saturday evening, April 24, 1965, performing with the Royal Ballet in their very first American performance of "Giselle," three weeks before appearing on "The Ed Sullivan Show." Boldly signed with a black marker by Nureyev and by Fonteyn in red fountain pen. Both signatures appear on the credits page (centerfold). A wonderful memento signed by two of the greatest icons of ballet. Small three-quarter-inch stain far from the text and signatures, but still in very good condition with very light wear. Rudolf Nureyev's first appearance after defecting from the Soviet Union was with the Royal Ballet, partnering with Margot Fonteyn in "Giselle" on February 21, 1962, at Covent Garden. She was 42 and he was 24. In America their partnership caused a frenzy of popular adulation to rival their British counterparts, the Beatles. Like the Fab Four, when they appeared on "The Ed Sullivan Show," May 16 & 23 1965, they drew record-breaking screaming crowds. For their first "Giselle" performance in America, 70,000 ticket applicants were turned away; scalpers got up to $10,000 for a front row seat.

Elmer G Leterman
Harper & Row 1965 - This is an ex-library book, but with only a few library markings (thought the first blank page has been removed). Otherwise, the hardcover book is good with shelfwear, bumped corners, some wear to the binding and a bit of light soiling for a few pages. The mylar protected dust jacket has no library markings and is good plus with rubbing, edgewear (including small tears and a few very small pieces missing at the corners) and some fading to the spine. A good example of a very scarce book. Expedited international shipping is not available. The delivery expectation for international shipping is 7-32 business days, depending upon customer location. Capra, Frank (director, producer); John Sturges (director); Martin Caidin (novel); Walter Newman, Mayo Simon (screenwriter); Gregory Peck, Gene Hackman, Richard Crenna, David Janssen, James Franciscus (starring)
Culver City, CA: Columbia Pictures, 1965. Early second estimating draft script for the 1969 film. This draft would be entirely unused in the final film, as director Frank Capra would leave the project as it began shooting. Based on Martin Caidin's 1964 novel. After a crew of three astronauts are working in an orbiting space lab, Jim Pruett (Crenna), Clayton Stone (Franciscus) and Buzz Lloyd (Hackman) are ordered to return to Earth by the head of the program, Charles Keith (Peck). They soon find however that their rockets will not fire and they are unable to return. With only 42 hours of oxygen remaining, and few options available, Ted Dougherty (Janssen) proposes a rescue mission using an experimental spacecraft that has yet to be tested. To make matters worse, a hurricane is approaching the launch site. Early efforts to bring "Marooned" to the big screen began with Capra and screenwriter Walter Newman, as seen here, though Newman's script would prove too lengthy and costly for the studio to produce (though it took eleven drafts in order to decide so). Capra fought through countless other production difficulties including casting, coordinating with NASA, and believing the studio was attempting to push him off the project, before simply walking away from the film, to be replaced by John Sturges. Winner of an Academy Award (Best Effects), and nominated for two more. Shot on location at Cape Canaveral in Florida. Gray titled wrappers, noted as Second Estimating Draft on the front wrapper, production No. 8742, dated June 30, 1965, with credits for producer Capra. Title p … [Click Below for Full Description]

Nichols, John
New York: David McKay Company, Inc., 1965. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/fine. A Fine copy of the first edition, first printing (slight fading to the edges, small bookseller's sticker to the rear pastedown's lower left corner, slight lean), in a Fine dust jacket (light soiling to the white rear panel, a few tiny closed edge tears), SIGNED BY JOHN NICHOLS WITH A DRAWING BY NICHOLS WHICH INCORPORATES HIS SIGNATURE on the title page and there inscribed by Nichols as follows: "Nov. 21, 2003 / To Fred, / Let's hope that all our / Children grow up to be / Loving and compassionate. / L'Chaim / John Nichols [incorporated into a drawing by John Nichols in his own hand]"; John Nichols' debut book, the novel centered on a young couple whose relationship deepens in spite of their differences. The novel formed the basis for the well-received 1969 film starring Liza Minnelli and Wendell Burton, which film was Alan J. Pakula debut directorial effort. Signed copies of the book are rather uncommon to the market, especially when in a condition as nice as is this copy. Reynolds Price described the novel as “Comic and touching and true.” John Knowles, the author of A Separate Peace described the work as “A hilarious, sad . . . all too true novel about the rough underside of a college love affair.”; The New York Times declared it to be "impressive" and Publisher's Weekly called the book “Dazzling. . . .
