Capote, Truman
New York: Random House, (1965.) dj. First printing. A fascinating account of the killers responsible for the apparently senseless murder of the four members of the Clutter family in rural Kansas. This book essentially created a new form - the non-fiction novel - and is Capote's most important and enduring work. Harper Lee, his lifelong friend and the author of 'To Kill a Mockingbird,' collaborated with Capote on his research for this book. Winner of the Edgar award, basis for several movies. 343 pp. Very near fine in a like dustjacket (the dust jacket was folded very slightly off-center.) While not a scarce title, it is quite uncommon in this condition.Hardcover first edition - [Attributes: First Edition]

PERRAULT Charles , LAVATER Warja
MAEGHT Adrien.

Kerouac, Jack
New York; (1965): Coward-McCann. First Edition. Octavo. 366pp. with an introduction by Seymour Krim. This was Kerouac's famous underground novel. He had begun writing the manuscript in the mid-1950's, and finally completed it in 1961. It had been passed around hand to hand until it finally reached the publisher in 1964. " No one else writing in America during this time had achieved a rhythm as close to jazz, action and the actual speed of the mind, and the reality of a nationwide scene that has been lived by thousands of us between the ages of seventeen and forty-five" Jack Kerouac created the "Beat Generation". A near fine copy bound in red cloth lettered in gilt, in unclipped pictorial dust jacket rubbed at corners and joints, light wear to spine ends and wear along the edges with some chipping to upper edge of rear panel. With Kroch's & Brentano's original price sticker on rear panel. A very nice copy.

Sternberg, Josef von (director); Heinrich Mann (novel); Carl Zuckmayer, Karl Vollmoller, Robert Liebmann (screenwriters); Emil Jannings, Marlene Dietrich, Kurt Gerron (starring)
Germany: Atlas Films, 1965. Original re-release A1 poster for a circa 1965 re-release 1930 German film. From the collection of noted film historian Amos Vogel. Full provenance available.Marlene Dietrich became an immediate international star on the strength of her performance as the temptress Lola Frohlich in Josef von Sternberg's classic tale of love and obsession. Professor Immanuel Rath (Emil Jannings) is a strict and humorless schoolmaster who is shocked when he discovers the boys in his class have been spending their time at a sleazy cabaret called The Blue Angel, where an entertainer named Lola (Dietrich) keeps the men in thrall and sells suggestive postcards of herself. "The Blue Angel" was shot in both German and English language versions; the German is preferable, as most of the cast were obviously more expert in that tongue. Dietrich introduced what would become her theme song, "Falling In Love Again", in this film.23.25 x 33 inches, non-archivally mounted on board and framed. Very Good.

Peter Matthiessen
Dillingham, New York, 1965. A near fine first print copy in an unclipped and near fine dustjacket. This copy is signed by Matthiessen on the title page--without any inscriptions--signature only. A solid tight and clean copy--with only two very light tape ghosts to the front cloth cover and two to the cloth back cover--resulting from the original acrylic dustjacket protector being taped to the book (see photos). In addition the front free endpaper has a very light and small area where there is light glue residue left from the previous owner bookplate which has been removed (see photo). Otherwise this copy of Matthiessen's fourth novel would be fine. The dustjacket is complete and unfaded--unclipped with only one very small 3/16" closed end tear to the top middle front panel--or would also be fine. This is the novel that put the author on the map to stardom both for fiction and non-fiction. President Kennedy had his non-fiction titles of "The Cloud Forest" and "Wildlife in American" in the White House library. Very scarce to find a signed copy in this condition. He has been called one of the greatest and most influential African Americans in history” (Wikipedia 2017) . “My mother went to the front door and opened it. Standing where they could see her pregnant condition, she told them that she was alone with her three small children, and that my father was away, preaching, in Milwaukee. The Klansmen shouted threats and warnings at her that we had better get out of town because ‘the good Christian white people' were not going to stand for my father's ‘spreading trouble' among the ‘good' Negroes of Omaha with the ‘back to Africa' preachings of Marcus Garvey. ” SUBJECT(S) : Malcolm X, Biography, Black Muslims, African-Americans, Civil Rights.
