DEBRET, J. B.
Rio de Janeiro / New York: Distribuidora Record / Continental News, 1965. Hardcover. Near Fine. 3 vols.: 8, 56, [1], 10, [1], [50]; ii, 162, [3], [43]; xvi, 252, [2], [51] p. 141 p. of colour plates and 3 colour maps. Red cloth folders with gold lettering. Light wear and soiling. Some slight tearing of cloth at spine ends. One thumbprint in volume 1 on page before first plate and stain on back of plate 10 in same volume. Jean-Baptiste Debret (1768 - 1848) was a French painter who produced many valuable lithographs depicting the people of Brazil. He first travelled to Brazil in March 1816 as a member of the so-called French Artistic Mission. He received favour from the Portuguese court in exile and later by the imperial court in Rio. He was commissioned to paint portraits of Portuguese King Dom Joao VI and the Archduchess Maria Leopoldina of Austria who married Dom Pedro I of Brazil. In 1829 Debret organized the first art exhibition ever to take place in Brazil, in which he presented many of his works as well as those of his disciples. Despite his portrayal of royal and aristocratic subjects, he is today best known for his portrayals of street scenes, local costumes, and the everyday life of Brazilians in the period between 1816 and 1831. He took a particular interest in black slavery conditions and in the indigenous peoples of Brazil. His work is therefore one of the most important documentations of the country during the early decades of the 19th century. Returning to France in 1831, he published this monumental series, three volumes of lithographs. His original volumes, p … [Click Below for Full Description]

Frank Herbert
Chilton Books, Philadelphia and New York 1965 - Half a century after it was published, Dune continues to be regarded among the greatest science fiction novels. This is a signed first edition, first printing, in the first issue dust jacket. Condition is near fine. Herbert characteristically signed in black ink on the title page, crossing out his printed name and signing above, and at an angle consonant with, the slope of the stylized sand dune. First edition is so stated on the copyright page and first printing confirmed by copyright page content. The first issue dust jacket is confirmed by an intact "5.95" front flap price and the publisher information in four lines on the lower rear flap. The blue cloth binding is square and clean with sharp corners, no color shift, and bright white spine print. There is no appreciable wear and only trivial wrinkling to the spine ends. The contents remain bright with a crisp feel. We find no spotting, age-toning, or previous ownership marks other than the author’s signature. Slight soiling does not significantly mar the otherwise white page edges. The illustrated dust jacket is clean and complete apart from fractional wear at the spine ends with slight wear otherwise confined to the corners and front hinge. Color shift to the jacket spine is barely detectable, retaining clearly yellow color in the author’s printed name and strong color in the wraparound illustration. The rear face map of Arrakis is unsoiled. The dust jacket is protected beneath a removable, archival quality clear cover. The book is further protected within a blue … [Click Below for Full Description]

" Ce qui m'intéressait, c'était ce personnage avec la main sur la poitrine que j'avais vu au Prado, j'en avais fait tout jeune une copie d'après une reproduction. Ce n'est pas le Greco lui-même que j'ai peint, c'est le fantôme de ce tableau-là. J'en ai fait une série de peintures, des gouaches, des eaux-fortes et treize lithos éditées dans un album". Bill Wilson; A A Alcoholics Anonymous; Lois Wilson
New York: Alcoholics Anonymous World Services Inc., 1965. Second edition. Hardcover. Fine. New York: Alcoholics Anonymous World Services Inc., 1965. Second edition. Seventh Printing. Inscribed by Bill and Lois Wilson on verso of front free endpaper : "Dear Chuck -/ Lois Joins me / in all affection / and in confident / faith that the / years to come / will be your finest / Ever. / Bill / Stepping Stones / Jan 15 / 66". Below that is Lois' inscription in her own hand: "With Heaps of Love / Lois." Octavo. xxx, 575 pages. Bound in full blue morocco with gilt rules on covers, and inner dentelles, light-yellow silk bookmark bound in. Spine in six compartments with gilt lettering, rules and decorations. Top edge gilt. Lovely blue leather binding in beautiful condition. The seventh printing was published in March 1965. The signature page of this book is integral to the binding (see photo), so the binding precedes the January 1966 inscription, meaning that the book must have been finely bound in 1965 and promptly presented to Bill and Lois for signature. This is the only copy I have seen that was inscribed by Wilson into an already finely bound copy. This no doubt came about because the "Chuck" in the dedication was Chuck Gibian, one of Bill Wilson's sponsees. They became close friends over the years. This copy comes with a twelve page typescript (about his journey in sobriety) by Chuck, together with his AA "Birds of a Feather" pin. [Jazz & Song] [Beatles] (1943 - 2001)
Original pencil signature, "George Harrison," on an Ace of Hearts playing card. In fine condition. Accompanied by a letter of provenance and a certificate of authenticity from Beatles expert Perry Cox (Author of 'The Official Price Guid to the Beatles Records & Memorabilia'), noting that "this is the only signed playing card I've examined by any member of the Beatles."The English guitarist, singer, songwriter, and music and film producer achieved international fame as the lead guitarist of the Beatles. Often referred to as "the quiet Beatle", Harrison embraced Indian mysticism and helped broaden the horizons of his fellow Beatles as well as their Western audience by incorporating Indian instrumentation in their music.  Although the majority of the Beatles' songs were written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, most Beatles albums from 1965 onwards contained at least two Harrison compositions and his songs for the group included "Taxman", "Within You Without You", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something", the last of which became the Beatles' second-most covered song.

Levitt, Helen & James Agee
Viking Press, New York, 1965. 78 pp., 9.25 x 7.75 inches. Cloth in illustrated dust-jacket. A very fine copy, a trifle dusty on the top edge, with the very slight toning of pages present in virtually all copies, in a sparkling, near fine jacket that has trivial touches of wear at the corners, minuscule chips at the top of the spine, and a couple of mild creases along the edges. Levitt's first book, a classic collection of more than fifty of her New York City street photographs, mostly of children and their games and chalk drawings, shot in the 1940s and printed beautifully in gravure, with an essay by James Agee, written in the late 1940s when the book was first planned, but left unpublished at his death in 1955. Cited in all major reference guides to photobooks, including "The Book of 101 Books: Seminal Photographic Books of the Twentieth Century" by Andrew Roth, "The Photobook: A History" by Martin Parr and Gerry Badger, and "The Open Book" by Andrew Roth. CAMPIGLI MASSIMO (Berlino 1895 - St. Tropez 1971)
Litografia a colori eseguita nel 1965, mm 415x495 (foglio mm 500x655). Tiratura su carta "Rives". Firmata "Campigli 65" in basso a destra e numerata 3/65 tutto a lapis. Meloni 212.
