REAGAN, Ronald, & Richard G. Hubler.
New York: Duell, Sloan and Pearce, 1965. Original black cloth, spine lettered in gilt. With the dust jacket. Light sunning at extremities and faint singer-soiling to edges. A very good copy in the very good jacket, price-clipped, toned, light chipping and nicking at extremities, short closed tear at head of rear panel. First edition, first printing, signed by Ronald Reagan on the front free endpaper during his tenure as President. The book was signed for Victor Ross (born 1919), senior executive at Reader's Digest and head of the firm's European division, with Reagan signing underneath the neat secretarial presentation inscription "To Victor Ross with best wishes". Ross acquired the signature through Melvin Laird (1922-2016), Republican Congressman for Wisconsin from 1953 to 2016, and United States Secretary of Defense from 1969 to 1973. After the Watergate crisis Lair resigned from politics to become senior counsellor for national and international affairs at Reader's Digest, and through the company became acquainted with Victor Ross. Ross, a collector of Presidential and Prime Ministerial signatures, requested Laird have the book signed, with Laird returning the book with a typed note dated 13 August 1984, loosely inserted in the book: "Dear Victor: President Reagan was very pleased to autograph his book for you. With best wishes, Mel Laird". The book was since acquired by Peter Harrington directly from the recipient. It is uncommon to find the title with a provenanced signature, much more so than for Reagan's post-Presidential autobiography. Where's the Rest of Me? was R … [Click Below for Full Description]

Clark, Jim
1965. Original menu for 1965 Indianapolis 500. Signed by race winner and legend Jim Clark, along with competitors and race organizers: Gordon Johncock, Joe Leonard, George Snider, Harlan Fengler, Bobby Johns, Chuck Rodee, Arnie Knepper, Bud Tingelstad and Jim Hurtubise. There are over 30 signatures. In near fine condition. Signatures of Clark are uncommon as he passed away in 1968. The 49th International 500-Mile Sweepstakes was held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana on Monday, May 31, 1965. The five-year-old "British Invasion" finally broke through as Jim Clark and Colin Chapman triumphed in dominating fashion with the first rear-engined Indy-winning car, a Lotus 38 powered by Ford. With only six of the 33 cars in the field having front engines, it was the first 500 in history to have a majority of cars as rear-engined machines. Clark, of Scotland, started from the front row, and led 190 laps, the most since Bill Vukovich (195) in 1953. He became the first non-American winner of the Indianapolis 500 since 1916. Clark would go on to win the 1965 World Championship (which Indianapolis was not part of any longer). He is the only driver in history to win the Indy 500 and Formula One World Championship in the same year. Clark actually chose to skip Monaco to compete at Indy. ABC Sports covered the race for the first time on Wide World of Sports. Charlie Brockman anchored the broadcast along with Rodger Ward. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]

Telingater S., Kaplan L.
Kniga, Moscow, 1965. 228 pp.: ill. 22x17.7 cm. In original cloth with the letterpress design and constructivist dust-wrapper by Solomon Telingater. Dust-wrapper with a couple of tears. Otherwise fine. First edition. Rare. Both a brief account of the book history and an extensive study of the origins and later development of job printing. Published in 1965, the book is written by one of the biggest names in Russian book art, Solomon Telingater (1903-1969) and the author of numerous typography studies, Lev Kaplan. The former, alongside El Lissitzky (1890-1941), Gustav Klutsis (1895-1938) and Alexander Rodchenko (1891-1956), was a founding member of the October group - a collective of Constructivist artists responsible for revolutionizing standards of the 1930s Soviet typography and book design. Influenced by the avant-garde tendencies of the time, Telingater made a name for himself as a daring experimenter who applied the trends of the emerging film industry and the features of photographic technology to book art. Solomon stood out above the rest of the graphic artists not only because of his modernist inclinations, but because of his masterly knowledge of typography. He paid particular attention to the drawn types (prints), regarding them to increase the expressiveness of book design. His most famous works include: "Dvenadtsat'" [i.e.Twelve] (1923), "S meshkom za smert'yu" [i.e. With a Sack after Death] (1927), "Slovo predostavlyayetsya Kirsanovu" [i.e. The Word Belongs to Kirsanov] (1930), "Tragediynaya noch'" [i.e. Tragical Night] (1931), Govorit Il'ich [i.e. Lenin Speakin … [Click Below for Full Description]

Dylan, Bob and Pete Seeger
1965. Original stereo LP put out by Zenith featuring various folk singers, including Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger. Signed by both Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger in contemporary signatures on the front panel of the record sleeve. It features Dylan singing: Don't Think Twice, It's All Right and House of the Rising Sun; Pete Seeger singing, John Henry and Follow the Drinkin' Gourd; New Christy Minstrels Californi-o and Rovin' Gambler; Brothers Four San Francisco Bay Blues and Michael; Village Stompers If I Had a Hammer and Reilly's Daughter. Matted and framed. The entire piece measures 20 inches by 25.5 inches. Contemporary signatures on an original record are rare. For many listeners in the early 1960s Dylan embodied the ideals of the folk revival: a young hobo, drifting out of the West, singing old songs he had learned in his travels and writing new songs about the trials, troubles, and tribulations of the world around him. He wrote songs about everything that came into his mind--love songs, outlaw ballads, rhymed comic monologues, ragtime novelties, blues--but for a lot of people, what mattered most were his songs of social consciousness. He was hailed as the voice of a generation, and the pressure to live up to that description increasingly felt like a burden. Meanwhile, folk music was changing from a secret music shared by devoted fans into a mass-market commodity with number one hits, pop singers jumping on the bandwagon, and a national TV show called Hootenanny--which was named after Pete Seeger's singalong gatherings. William Heinemann, London, 1965. First edition of Ngugi's third novel. Octavo, original cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the title page, "Reaching into the heart of the people of Makuyu and Kameno. Ngugi wa Thiong'o." Rare and desirable signed and inscribed. The River Between tells the story of the separation of two neighboring villages of Kenya caused by differences in faith set in the decades of roughly the early 20th century. The bitterness between them caused much hatred between the adults of each side. The story tells about the struggle of a young leader, Waiyaki, to unite the two villages of Kameno and Makuyu through sacrifice and pain. It is set during the colonial period, when white settlers arrived in Kenya's "White Highlands", and has a mountain setting. Ngugi wa Thiong'o was born in Limuru, Kenya, in 1938, was educated at the Alliance High School, Kikuyu, at Makerere University, Uganda and at the University of Leeds. His novel, Weep Not, Child, was published in 1964 and this was followed by The River Between (1965), A Grain of Wheat (1967), and Petals of Blood (1977). Devil on the Cross (1980), was conceived and written during the author's one-year detention in prison, in Kenya, where he was held without trial after the performance by peasants and workers of his play Ngaahika Ndeenda (I Will Marry When I Want). Ben-Gurion, David; Moshe Pearlman
London: Weidenfeld and Nicholson, 1965. First edition of this collection of informal talks with journalist and first Israeli military spokesman Moshe Pearlman. Octavo, original cloth. Signed by David Ben-Gurion on the title page. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. Dust jacket design by John Curtis. Rare and desirable signed by David Ben-Gurion. David Ben-Gurion was the primary founder of the State of Israel and the first Prime Minister of Israel. Ben-Gurion's passion for Zionism, which began early in life, led him to become a major Zionist leader and Executive Head of the World Zionist Organization in 1946. As head of the Jewish Agency from 1935, and later president of the Jewish Agency Executive, he was the de facto leader of the Jewish community in Palestine, and largely led its struggle for an independent Jewish state in Mandatory Palestine. On 14 May 1948, he formally proclaimed the establishment of the State of Israel, and was the first to sign the Israeli Declaration of Independence, which he had helped to write. Ben-Gurion led Israel during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, and united the various Jewish militias into the Israel Defense Forces. Subsequently, he became known as "Israel's founding father." Chomsky, Noam
Cambridge, MA: The MIT Press, 1965. First edition of this landmark work in generative grammar, which introduced certain technical innovations still drawn upon in contemporary work. Octavo, original cloth. Signed by Noam Chomsky on the half-title page. Near fine in a very good dust jacket with some chips and tears. Rare, especially signed. In Aspects of the Theory of Syntax, Chomsky presented a deeper, more extensive reformulation of transformational generative grammar (TGG), a new kind of syntactic theory that he had introduced in the 1950s with the publication of his first book, Syntactic Structures. Aspects is widely considered to be the foundational document and a proper book-length articulation of Chomskyan theoretical framework of linguistics. It presented Chomsky's epistemological assumptions with a view to establishing linguistic theory-making as a formal (i.e. based on the manipulation of symbols and rules) discipline comparable to physical sciences, i.e. a domain of inquiry well-defined in its nature and scope. From a philosophical perspective, it directed mainstream linguistic research away from behaviorism, constructivism, empiricism and structuralism and towards mentalism, nativism, rationalism and generativism, respectively, taking as its main object of study the abstract, inner workings of the human mind related to language acquisition and production.
