New York: Harper & Row, 1965. Fine copy in a fine dust jacket. Exceptional copy which has been signed and inscribed by the author. In The Heat of The Night by John Ball Harper & Row: New York, 1965. Hardcover in dust jacket. Fine in fine dust jacket which is not price-clipped and has the $3.50 price. The dust jacket will be enclosed in a removable Mylar dust jacket protector. A beautiful inscribed and signed copy in first edition. This book is notorious to find signed in first edition, let alone a nice first edition in a fine dust jacket. Here is the book for collector of keystone books. First Edition. SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR, John Ball, on the title page to bookman, artist and owner of Phantom Bookshop of Ventura, California and manager Katie W P Crawford. Even John Ball had a rough time acquiring any kind of first edition himself, and he was a fellow who went into many bookshops. He told me personally years ago. how difficult it was to find a first edition of his book. He was constantly on the look-out to find one. I was associated with The Book Mall of Ventura years ago and here is another inscription he wrote on the title page of another copy I sold of In The Heat of The Night, to Book Mall owner Sol Grossman: "For Sol Grossman who, somehow, found this book." Sol and his wife were mystery book collectors and sellersand I remember Sol telling me he had finally found a copy of this epic book, that really did change history in many ways that still affect each of us. John Ball was an interesting man. Martial arts master mystery, jade collector, policeman, intellectual … [Click Below for Full Description]

1965. This is a signed copy of Cold Dogs in the Courtyard. This was Bukowski's 10th book, but it was published years before Black Sparrow Press came along. This book of poems was published in 1965 by Literary Times / Cyfoeth Publications, Chicago. Only 500 copies were ever printed and no signed copies were available from the publisher. This copy appears to have been signed many years later by Bukowski. This rare chapbook brings together 13 poems that first appeared in separate issues of 11 small press journals. This is the only book in which Bukowski chose his own poems. Although they eventually were published in magazines prior to the book, in his intro Bukowski claims the poems were all rejected prior to being published - hence the name, "Cold Dogs in the Courtyard." He actually goes on to list the editors who rejected them - all publishers of his previous books. These early poems include: • What Seems To Be The Trouble, Gentlemen? - pg. 5 - circa 1962 • Imbecile Night - pg. 6 - circa 1962 • To A Lady Who Believes Me Dead - pg. 8 - circa 1962 • Thank God For Alleys - pg. 9 • Experience - pg. 10 - circa 1963 • The Death Of A Roach - pg. 12 - circa 1959 • It's Nothing To Laugh About - pg. 14 - circa 1960 • Suicide - pg. 16 - circa 1961 • Face While Shaving - pg. 17 - circa 1961 • Existence - pg. 18 - circa 1963 • I Have Lived In England - pg. 20 - circa 1961 • 2 Outside, As Bones Break In My Kitchen - pg. 21 - circa 1962 • Layover - pg. 22 - circa 1956 I'll grade this copy as near fine, although it's much closer to fine. There is a small light red stain under Bukowski's pho … [Click Below for Full Description]

Bright, square, clean, and tight. 1st edition published by Praeger, NY in 1965, and inscribed by Mies Van Der Rohe, the preeminent world architect of the 20th century. The master of the modern steel-and-glass skyscraper, he was a founder of modernism, and head of the German school of design known as Bauhaus. His architectural design and innovation has been widely imitated through the decades, and around the world. The book is elegantly designed, and illustrated with dramatic black-and-white photographs, floor plans, and classic details. 'Last to Go' & 'Request Stop' were first performed at the Apollo Theatre in the revue, Pieces of Eight, 23 September 1959 [Baker & Ross W11.2b]; while 'The Black & White' was staged in the revue, One to Another, 15 July 1959 [W11.2a]. Used with wear and tear. Heinemann 1965. Signing events were rare in those days, not like today. These early signed copies were usually to friends and family, before they were even released into book stores. You can tell by the style of signature and handwriting what are early signed copies. Aside from its fine dust jacket, this is the earliest known signed copy of this book and only one we've seen come on the market. You can tell by the signature style with the curly letters. That it was signed in green ink indicates it was likely signed on personal request and a green pen was all that was available. We are selling a special Wilbur collection on behalf of a client. Wilbur will be releasing his memoirs this Spring so now it the time to invest again. From early 2000's until 2011 we were the world's largest dealer of Wilbur's early and signed books. It was our privilege to meet him privately, including at his home, to have him verify signed books and to line-sign books for me only (Niso would not allow the practice for long). He was concerned about the integrity of those dealers selling his signed books and it was a great honor to become friends with him for a time. Him and Niso also bought rarer copies as well as other memorabilia from me like film scripts. After the rarest titles, like this one, were sold into collections, I moved onward in my book dealing focus. One of the secrets of the trade I can share with you is that neither authors or publishers kept the old records of what was published how, when or why. No one thought to keep the written records of contemporary boo … [Click Below for Full Description]

Technion Research and Development Foundation Ltd, 1965. First Edition. Wraps. 4to. Publisher's pale green wraps with cloth tape binding (as issued). Briefly INSCRIBED by Hoenich at title page and dated 1964. Wraps lightly toned. Minor wear at corners. Spine sunned. Very good. From an edition of 200. [xii], 64, [6, plates]. Very good. Alternatively titled "THE HOPEFUL MONSTER: A Subjective Report About Art-Robots," an unusual academic report of the machine-aided artistic techniques of P.K. Hoenich, professor of art at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. Primarily consisting of theories on the possibilities of robot art, it includes a complete a history of its development and full details of technical elements. Educated in various European art academies and originally a painter in the fauvist style, Hoenich reached the conclusion in the mid 1950s that because of technological progression and the development of film, figurative painting was being rendered obsolete and that visual art must incorporate a dimension of time. To this end, Hoenich developed a process incorporating machines, or "art-robots," for what he called sunray paintings. Using light and shadow with the aid of specially designed projectors, screens, glass sculptures, and other often mechanical objects, Hoenich created vivid, kinetic abstractions, examples of which can be seen in the nine photographic plates tipped into the edition. In the introduction to this volume, Hoenich takes a reactionary position against currents of contemporary art as unnecessarily shocking and primitive, and seeks to create joyful … [Click Below for Full Description]

[WARHOL, Andy]
Andy Warhol, 1965. First Edition. Offset lithographed B&W poster. 8.5" x 11". Archivally mounted in a black metal frame with wooden back brace. Near fine. Vintage poster for the world premiere of Andy Warhol's seminal films, VINYL and POOR LITTLE RICH GIRL at Jonas Mekas' Filmmakers' Cinematheque. Photo-illustrated with a repeating image of Edie Sedgwick and Gerard Malanga, "[t]he poster's typewrit- ten descriptions of these Warhol films as 'cinema verite,' 'pop art,' and his 'first nonstatic film' denote an attempt to place underground cinema in a more mainstream genre of film. Its childlike drawing of a butterfly is reminiscent of the butterflies Warhol drew in the 1950s when he worked as a commercial illustrator" (Maréchal p. 29). Variously cited as either Warhol's most or least "entertaining" film, VINYL is an experimental adaptation of Anthony Burgess' A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (for which Warhol legitimately paid $3000 for rights), adapted by regular Factory collaborator Ronald Tavel, and featuring songs by The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Isley Brothers, and others. Shot by Warhol and Malanga in Edie Sedgwick's apartment, POOR LITTLE RICH GIRL was Sedgwick's first speaking and starring role in a Warhol film. Conceived as a day-in-the-life of the Factory superstar and at least conceptually autobiographical, IMDB's description of the story seems to sum up its intentions best: "A young, jobless woman stays in bed, reads, talks on the phone, smokes cigarettes, makes fresh cof- fee, and tries on some clothes from a large wardrobe." [Maréchal 4]. [Attributes: First Edition]

1965. Condition: Très bon état. RETOUR AMONT Edition oroginale. 6 … [Click Below for Full Description]

Octavo, original boards. Signed by V.S. Naipaul on the title page. Book Condition: Very Good with spine lean. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine in archival protective cover. Trinidadian essayist and novelist V.S. Naipaul has won both the 1971 Booker Prize and the 2001 Nobel Prize in Literature. An Area of Darkness is a travelogue detailing Naipaul's trip through India in the early sixties. "The world Naipaul sees is of course no void at all: it is a world dense with physical and social phenomena, brutally alive with the complications and contradictions of actual human endeavour. This world of Naipaul's is in fact charged with what can only be described as a romantic view of reality, an almost unbearable tension between the idea and the physical fact." (The New York Review of Books). Loosely laid in is the flier from the author reading where the book was signed and a book review of An Area of Darkness from Newsweek in 1965. Roth, Dieter
William and Noma Copley Foundation, 1965. First edition. Loose Sheets. Decorated folder with loose contents. Dieter's breakthrough artist book and winner of the 1960 William and Noma Copley Foundation Award. Per Dobke, Printing of this "book" was supervised by Richard Hamilton during the period 1961 - 1966 and distributed finally in 1966. In an edition of approximately 1,750 copies, hors commerce. Despite that rather large sounding limitation only one full example found in all of world institutions. Dobke (and others) call for "112 sheets of different sizes (some folded), texts, drawings, photographs, collages, reliefs, letterpress, offset, diecuts, embossing" laid into cardboard cover. This copy with only 31 separate sheets of varying sizes, shapes and colors. Interestingly, the notations to the copy held at Bard College also mention a copy with 30 inserts. We are selling this copy "as-is" Given the open nature of this book, one can only wonder how many copies have survived intact Contents fine. The cardboard folder is in very good condition.
