Autograph Signed Letter, 4to, on personalized stationery, Chilmark, Island of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, September 2, 1965

      - Dear Irwin, There is a rather famous picture of Queen Elizabeth which corresponds somewhat to the description of the one your son purchased. I have forgotten the name of the artist but he was undoubtedly one of the fashionable ones of her time. Anyhow, many copies have been made of this painting. It has long been popular. I rather suspect your son bought one of these copies. If you send me a photograph I can probably find out where the original Queen Elizabeth painting hangs. You could not buy it, for sure, for $4,000. I am just about to leave here for sculpture. I expect to be returned to Kansas City (3616 Belleview Ave, K.C. MO) about the middle of December. Why don't you write me there! Do you still play the piano? Who was that old fairy you studied with in Carthage? I think he came to an unhappy end. I've lost his name. Write me a letter about yourself around the first of the new year?." Signed, "Cordially Tom". A friendly letter discussing the authenticity of a painting bought by his friend's son.         The James Bond Dossier

London: Jonathan Cape. 1965., 1965. INSCRIBED FIRST EDITION. Pp.159. Publisher's black cloth-effect paper over boards with gilt titles to spine and blind-stamped bullet-holes to upper cover in the price-clipped dust-wrapper based on the familiar 'trompe l'oeil' designs which decorated the Ian Fleming first editions. A lightly handled copy, signed and inscribed by the author to flyleaf "James Baxter / from / Kingsley Amis / (Death to M)". With prize label opposite from the prestigious Rossall School, Lancashire, the sister school of Marlborough College. Amis' presentation copies are uncommon, particularly so when naming a series character. Scarce thus. Amis' first venture into the world of James Bond. He also wrote the light-hearted 'Book of Bond' in 1965 and the first post-Fleming 007 novel 'Colonel Sun'. BMC No.1 p.4-13 'Fleming and Bond; Related Titles'.         The Looking-Glass War

London: Heinemann, 1965. First edition. Octavo, original black boards. Fine in the dust jacket with the usual fading to the spine. Set in the early 1960s the cold war is in full swing, and the Department, a holdover from the WWII section of British intelligence, forms an uneasy alliance with its rival agency, the Circus, when it is suspected that Soviet missiles may be in the process of being placed along the West German border. "A book of rare and great power" (Financial Times).

Inscribed by Jane Bowles to the publisher ("love to Peter from Jane Bowles") on a slip affixed to the free endsheet by Owen.       Grossman Publishers, New York 1965 - Grossman Publishers. NY. 365 pages. First edition, stated first printing. 1965. Signed in person by Ralph Nader directly to the title page. No inscription, signature only. The book is crisp, tight and clean. Corners are sharp. Pages are bright white and lay perfectly. Original 1st issue DJ with $5.95 price intact. The DJ is nearly fine which is nearly an impossible feat for this aged black DJ that is notorious for being a most difficult DJ to locate in collectible condition. This one is about as nice as you'll be able to find. Only a handful of small marks/rubs, none being notable. An incredible copy, both book and DJ. In March of 1999, the New York Times published a list of the top 100 books in journalism excellence. The panel consisted of 36 judges and was compiled by New York University's School of Journalism. Unsafe at Any Speed ranked 38th among the top 100 pieces of journalism of the 20th century. Additionally, Ralph Nader was recently named by the Atlantic as one of the 100 most influential figures in American history, one of only 4 living people to be so honored. [...]." - Schutzumschläge leicht berieben, teilweise mit kleineren Randläsuren. - Mit Exlibris. - Insgesamt saubere und sehr gut erhaltene Exemplare.
