Signed Ace of Hearts Playing Card

Original pencil signature, "George Harrison," on an Ace of Hearts playing card. In fine condition. Accompanied by a letter of provenance and a certificate of authenticity from Beatles expert Perry Cox (Author of 'The Official Price Guid to the Beatles Records & Memorabilia'), noting that "this is the only signed playing card I've examined by any member of the Beatles."The English guitarist, singer, songwriter, and music and film producer achieved international fame as the lead guitarist of the Beatles. Often referred to as "the quiet Beatle", Harrison embraced Indian mysticism and helped broaden the horizons of his fellow Beatles as well as their Western audience by incorporating Indian instrumentation in their music.  Although the majority of the Beatles' songs were written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, most Beatles albums from 1965 onwards contained at least two Harrison compositions and his songs for the group included "Taxman", "Within You Without You", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something", the last of which became the Beatles' second-most covered song.

Signed 1965 Claes Oldenburg Corner of a mattress (Paris Review: Multimousse) Serigraph

1965 - "Corner of a mattress (Paris Review: Multimousse)" by Claes Oldenburg, Signed Serigraph printed in 1965 from an edition size of 150. The overall is size of the Serigraph is 38 x 25 inches. The condition of this piece has been graded as B: Very Good Condition, with signs of handling or age. Here is some supplemental information about the Serigraph: This screenprint was printed in two colors on white, very thick and smooth paper. In plate: Paris Review/ Multimousse. This piece derives from an edition of 150, is signed and numbered in pencil. The "poster" edition was published in an unknown number and unsigned. These were printed by Steven Poleskie at Chiron Press, New York. About this piece, Oldenburg is recorded saying: "I started to work last summer on a poster for the Paris Review which took the form of a mattress, or the corner of a mattress. And this corner of a mattress, I think, led directly to an absorption in the island of Manhattan, which not only looks somewhat like this mattress, but also by the word "Manhattan" suggest mattress. You could think of saying Manhatress for example." [Attributes: Signed Copy]

GOD BLESS YOU, MR. ROSEWATER - OR PEARLS BEFORE SWINE [Rare UK proof copy with very scarce trial proof dustwrapper]

Jonathan Cape, London 1965 - Very rare proof copy with ultra rare precursory variant illustrated dustwrapper. Provisional publication date of October 21st 1965 stated on rear wrapper flap. Proof copy of the first impression of the first UK edition. ***Kurt Vonnegut's fifth novel, published four years before Slaughterhouse Five. ***Very good in red Jonathan Cape logo printed red card wrappers, with publisher's original typed blurb on white paper pasted to front wrapper, and dated the month of October, as called for. Child's blue biro scribble to front free endpaper [which at first glance resembles a wild version of Vonnegut's signature!]. Light reading creases to spine. Spine tight. All other pages clean. Red paper wrapper bright. ***In a good precursory variant trial mauve and pink colour illustrated outsize dustwrapper, with original publisher's price of 21s net. Dustwrapper rubbed and creased. Child's small blue biro light scribble over titles to front panel of dustwrapper. Small scuffs to front panel of dustwrapper. Edges of dustwrapper creased, rubbed and nicked (being outsize for the proof edition). Head of spine of dustwrapper creased and rubbed with small tears and tiny chips. Top edge of rear panel of dustwrapper creased, rubbed with tiny tears. ***200mm x 132mm. 217 pages. ***'Kurt Vonnegut has been called by Graham Greene "one of the best living American writers"; this is his best book. ***It infiltrates its subject (which might be called the American way of life) and leaves it apparently as solid as ever but, in face, riddled. ***It concerns the Rosewaters, a multi-millionaire American family whose fortune originated in the great bygone days of laissez-faire, bribery and corruption. ***In particular, it is about the family's sole prospective heir, Eliot Rosewater. His eccentricity is that he give money away without even requiring them to feel grateful. In a drab room in a small Indiana town he operates a one-man benevolent aid society. He helps people. It makes him happy. ***It also makes him, by most standards, crazy. To prove that he actually is crazy (and thereby divert the vast Rosewater inheritance to a more tractable distant cousin) is the aim of Mushari, a lawyer. ***The plot moves over the whole spectrum of American life, sparing nothing and no one, except Eliot Rosewater himself and a science fiction writer named Trout.' (Quote from typed printed publisher's blurb label pasted to front cover and inside front and rear dustwrapper blurb). ***'One of the best living American writers' Graham Greene.' (Review quote from rear of trial dustwrapper blurb). ***A rare proof of the first impression of the first UK edition complete with ultra scarce precursor variant illustrated dustwrapper, of interest to collectors of Kurt Vonnegut and rare literary first editions and first edition proof copies. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]

Terry Southern and John Gielgud on the set of "The Loved One" (Original photograph)

London and Los Angeles: MGM / Filmways, 1965. Vintage single weight still photograph of noted screenwriter Terry Southern with British actor John Gielgud on the set of Tony Richardson's seminal 1965 black comedy, "The Loved One." On the verso is a printed ditto-style mimeo description of the shot and a blurb for the film. "The Loved One" has always been overshadowed by Terry Southern's screenplay from the year before it, "Dr. Strangelove," but remains an important companion piece to that film. Whereas "Strangelove" was a meditation on war from an American perspective, "The Loved One" is more a meditation on death and Hollywood from the British point of view. Photographs of Southern at work, particularly on films, are rare in our experience. 8 x 10 inches (20 x 25 cm). Near Fine, with slight bleed of the mimeo printing to the image, as is typical.

She is Julie Christie, and Sandie Shaw, and In 1961, the high-brow publisher The Bodley Head seemed ahead of the game when it published Bill Brandt's Perspective of Nudes. In 1965, however, things had progressed so far that it was able to publish Cowboy Kate and Other Stories by South African photographer Sam Haskins, a wholly frivolous book that reflected the frivolous side of the decade. This was the first of many similar ''soft-porn'' books issued by ''respectable'' publishers, with titles like Six Nymphets, Birds of Britain, and Young London Permissive Paradise (Parr e Badger, pp. 77, Vol. III) Rilegato tela, sovracoperta (cloth, dust jacket) [Attributes: Hard Cover]

The lot in very good condition, contained in the author's own original folders and envelopes inscribed in manuscript. The University of Texas, Harry Ransom Center, holds a collection of R. P. Lister manuscripts relating to the London literary society. Including unpublished material from the cutting room floor so-to-speak, and several manuscript drawings, this archive forms the complete, firsthand, original account, with candid remarks of personal observations, made by Richard Percival Lister during his travels in Turkey, and serves to illustrate the acclaimed author's fastidious work for the making of his book. Having travelled widely through Turkey, Lister's account is vast in scope yet specific and detailed, also illustrated in his own hand. In keeping with his reputation, his account renders a feeling of personal experience as he shares his own without reservation. Adding depth to his observations of the country, he delves into historical events which influenced its present state. In getting to know the people, he learns much about the "Armenian dream of independence" at the turn of the century, and on this subject he reviews Greek origins of the place, Armenian uprisings, the Greek invasion of Anatolia, and so forth. Turkish culture and tradition appear throughout as he travels to Istanbul, ancient Troy and Ephesus, Kars, Lake Van, Antioch, Antalya, Samsun, and Trebizond on the great Anatolian plateau. The archive consist of the following: R. P. Lister's manuscript travel diary: 426 pages in 8 paper 12mo pocket journals, pagination continuing in each subsequent volume which is labeled and numbered in manuscript to front. On his travels, Lister made drawings of the Turkish people, of historic places, and of striking views. Some of these include the Yedikule Fortress (captioned 15/8/65), musicians and other civilians, the village of beehive houses at Harran in Upper Mesopotamia, Istanbul's Galata Bridge built in 1912 by a German firm over the Golden Horn and extending to the Yeni Cami Mosque, and the perimeter of a once fortified city with walls and towers of stone. Over 100 pages of typescript unpublished material, with annotations, but excluded from final publication copy. Together in a folder with manuscript notes 36 pages of varying sizes, an outline "Plan of the Turkey book," and a partial typed copy of his diary covering the first twelve days of travel. In this lot, we also learn that Lister's original planned title for the book was "The Dark Tower." Excerpts from the unpublished leafs: "This affair shows. that unorthodox travel is productive of unorthodox experiences, and that the Turks are likely to be as civilised when mishaps occur as anybody else." "Tarsus is unusual in that its name remains unchanged from Biblical times. Adana is a very Arab town; Marsin even more so. There are Hittite remains here and there." ". the great Ci
